Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Incorrect, Vlad. I used to use VDM Sound alone with Windows XP, and the sound's too slow. For games around the time of PQ3, LSL1 and 5 I can get Speedset running beautifully, but SCI0 games and newer SCI1 games won't run properly. Any ideas for help? Regards, - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Personally, I'd rather hear 'overly bright' instruments than instruments played with/through a crappy low-pass filter. Put me down for a SQ3 version, too. 😀 - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Listening right now- 1. Instruments sound wrong. Ignoring all else, only the drum kit sounds right, and it's ok. :) The actual instruments the song uses sound incorrect. Maybe 1 or 2 are right, but they sound not SQ3's SysEx instruments. What are you using? 2. Pitch is totally screwy. Interesting. …

Re: SCI0 problems

Anyone want to help me with this? What's with Speedset? And it won't help with newer SCI1 games either. (QFG4, KQ6) - Alistair, http://www.sierramusic.tk

Re: MT-32 emulation

Kari: That could be because 'Acou Piano 1' on the MT-32/LAPC-1 is an extremely low-quality sample. Canadacow: What do you mean by 'MS's examples'? Microsoft? Mark Seibert? Please explain. - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Damn canadacow I forgot! Sorry. Attached to this message. 😀 And a MT-32, nice! It rules. - Alistair P.S. Actually I think it's reverb 8, not 5 (the mp3). If it matters. 😀

Re: MT-32 emulation

Couple of points: No chorus on the MT-32. Inbuilt if it exists at all. And my mp3 was ordinary, I think excess reverb. Anyways, here's something more realistic to aim for: Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA- All Tied Up! Recorded from the Roland MT-32, reverb 5, 44.1 KHz, 128 kbps. - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Here's the MIDI (in MT-32 format)- attached to the message. No SysEx data with this song, uses default MT-32 instruments. Just wondering what you mean by this: Also, if you could, please suggest a good DOS MIDI I can use to test it on. And Nicht, yes true true, but there are a lot of diehard Sierra/ …

Re: SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Slight update: In LSL3 it does the skipping, in SQ3 only the speed of the music's wrong.. but not uniformly. It will run normally then too slow, etc etc. SCI1 games run fine. - Alistair

Re: MT-32 emulation

Fair enough, folks. I guess it's being made for you, not me. But I disagree with the "it's so hard to buy a MT-32" nonsense. 70 US bucks plus shipping on Ebay. Yeesh. Canadacow, I apologise for my comments, I just felt intolerant of the project. But it certainly is a good thing, and I commend you …

Re: MT-32 emulation

Snover, Yes yes, they might be horrible, but something probably still uses them and the goal of this project is to make (eventually) a 100% perfect emulation of the MT-32. But I don't understand. Why make an imperfect replica? Why not expand on the original MT-32 and use Sound Canvas piano samples …

Re: MT-32 emulation

One thing I also noticed was you haven't sorted out reverb. Something you'll know if ya love Sierra music (like myself) is that MT-32 soundtracks can be made or broken by the reverb setting. And I honestly can't believe this idea is put forward by canadacow, yet he/she has no MT-32. Sigh. :) Just …

SCI0 problems

in Speedset
Hey folks, While running SCI0 games (ie SQ3 et al) with VDMS and Speedset I get horrible skipping forward glitches. The music may run fine for 20 seconds but then it'll skip say 3 seconds forward. What causes this one? Anything I can do? Etc, etc. Highest regards, - Alistair, http://www.sierramusic. …

Speed guidelines

in Speedset
I was just wondering, would it be possible for you guys to make a list of recommended speeds for games? Personally, I'm interested in speeds for Sierra games and would greatly appreciate it if anyone could compile a list of speeds for the Quests, etc. Eg King's Quest 6- .006 Etc. Regards, - Spikey

Re: Speedset 1.0.1

Well, can you give me an example of the type of file? Or changes to the autoexec.vdms file, etc.. I tried launchpad, and the update, neither of which worked. If I just run a Sierra game, by, say, pressing enter, it plays with messed sound, and if I run Speedset from DOS I just get faster, messed …

Re: Speedset 1.0.1

Hey guys, Thanks for providing the community with VDMS, and now this. :) Getting to the point, I know the first post clears it up, but is there a way I can incorporate it into autoexec.vdms so I don't have the very annoying task of going to command prompt every time I want to run a DOS game? Regards …
