I don't understand: if the MIDI output is sent to the synthesizer, then do you have to plug the synthesizer's audio output into your sound card's Line In port, or find some other way to connect it to your speakers, or is it all done internally?

Um, the CFG extension suggests that is the config file. You probably want the second-most recently modified file.

I vaguely recall running across something like that before. I suspect it's something like Runtime Error 200, in the sense that it's triggered by the processor being too fast - in which case the solution is to lower DOSBox's cycles as much as you can stand.

Are you using some kind of CD-rip? If the game used redbook audio for its dialog (quite possible for a 1995 game), then it could be missing.
