Re: dosbox color bug

smeezekitty wrote: it does not even go into 24 or 32 bpp i get the BSoD. And here we go again. Does that happen in Vista, or in Windows 98, or both? And don't you think maybe you should fix that? isnt palette cycling bad programming practice? What if it is?

Re: dosbox color bug

why dont they make a utility to keep certain windows from messing with the windows palette Really, what do you expect?! 256 colors means 256 colors. If Windows and DOSBox each want to use a different set of 256 colors, then either your display is going to need to display 512 colors, or things are …

Re: GOG.com - More Info Needed..

I thought GOG did clear everything with the developers/publishers/copyright holders of the games they offer, and consequently pay some kind of fee. Don't they? Certainly I appreciate that everything they offer is properly tested and supported.

Re: Rayman on Windows 98 Computer, no CD Music

in DOS
I own an original Rayman CD-ROM, which I keep preserved in my closet. I made a backup image of it on my computer for playing with. I wrote the image in BIN/CUE format and mounted it using Virtual Clone Drive (Freeware) to burn to disc. Except here's the problem: VCD only read and burned the BIN …

Re: Rayman on Windows 98 Computer, no CD Music

I remember getting this game going some seven years ago. The speed throttling never worked quite right. Sometimes it would be too fast, sometimes too slow. It drove me on an expensive wild goose chase to build my own DOS machine. But I digress. Are you sure the copy you're trying to play has CD …

Re: AMBER Journeys Beyond

Say, didn't Bad Day on the Midway and The Residents: Freak Show have similar compatibility problems due to their use of Director? (Maybe if they can actually be made to work under XP/Vista, the owner of the rights could be persuaded to rerelease them.) This happened to spring to mind just now. Any …

Re: AMIGA games VS IBM PC ... which are better?

Prior to DOS 6.22 with FAT16, they used FAT12, with a 500meg limit, though this is not the main problem. Motherboards at the time (actually for quite a while after 6.22 came out,) were not able to set up hard drives over that 500 megs. Sure, the OS could access 2gig, but it depended on the MB to …

Re: AMIGA games VS IBM PC ... which are better?

Actually most of the HDD space issue is because the Amiga used a more efficient storage format than the PC's FAT system. Less wasted space. Do you have any links explaining why the Amiga file system is that much more efficient? I really don't think slack space was much of a problem on 250 MB hard …

You could say the same thing about the old Macs and how they managed to do what a PC could only do with a lot more RAM. The 68k CPU was just better that way. (The original IBM PC design team went with the Intel CPU because it was cheaper.) Not sure what to say about hard drive space on Amigas, but …

I remember being very frustrated that my old 486 didn't have enough power to play MOD music and do anything else at the same time. You were probably trying to use the PC speaker as an output device. Good heavens, no! As I dimly recall, it might have been an AWE64, actually. I did find a specialized …
