Dunno if forcing the mixer to fill up on certain LPT io accesses wouldn't help with dss detection as well. If there are many games that has dss detection troubles that is.

Doesn't the game also have vsync troubles on real hardware? If they just don't bother checking the vga vsync status there's not much you can do.

I'd think most old cards with audio amplifiers and differential drivers would require the negative voltage rail.

I quite like Heretic, although some levels the resolution and textures make things look a bit unclear. The newer ports sure help with this. Heretic 2 wasn't that bad either, nice bit of 3rd person action.

As I recall dosbox just cheats a bit internally with memory access with some internal video mode state and not all io bits are actually used.

Get a REAL 8088 then! None of those Taiwanese terrors. Go for a real IBM 5150/5160! I know a cheap place on Marktplaats 😀 I'm not paying 300 euros for that, that's probably 1 cent per transistor
