Re: CD audio missing - my research

in Windows
Isn't Deathtrap Dungeon on GoG? Shouldn't that have proper CDDA? I don't care about the game so I'm not investing the money to find out. I know someone with XP that gets no CDA with Hunter Hunted . No problem on my Win7, but _inmm does not seem to work with it for ripped tracks. Probably just either …

Not sure about the rest, but Frogger works fine with the SOTE fix for ogg-winmm. Metal Fatigue works fine in _inmm, but I heard there was some delay in switching tracks, I need to try that as I want to play that game someday.

Further research: Nelson Piquet's Grand Prix Evolution NASCAR Racers Both work with the ogg-winmm with mci_close commented out made for SOTE. No looping issues either. Random note: using the latest version of _inmm isn't always optimal. LayerSection requires 2.37 or less or it has really annoying …

I'm curious, do you have any screenshots of those minor graphic glitches? It's unplayable with dgVoodoo2 on my Nvidia, but perfect on Intel Integrated Without it, it looks good natively with Nvidia, no clue about Intel. So really curious how it looks on an ATI card with dgVoodoo2.

My research: Sentinel Returns (btw, Google string "sentinel returns cdda"): http://www.old-games.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=51778 Mad Trax: http://punkrockhacker.blogspot.no/2014_06_01_archive.html Shadows of the Empire works the same as Mad Trax, Mad Trax has broken looping with this though. Suppose …

Re: What to do with all these consoles?!

Why would any PC gamer use an Xbox/Xbox 360 for emulation? You probably have a better emulator box if you go through your spare parts. I would keep it anyway though, an Xbox is worth it for Panzer Dragoon Orta. Not sure I can think of any reasons to keep a Xbox 360, but it has plenty of great games …

Re: IPS monitors with real 70 Hz support ?

I haven't tested FreeSync, but G-Sync seems to work in DOSBox. To check is better to try Epic Pinball, as not any game may have evident problems. There is a probability FreeSync/G-Sync will not make things better in VGA games in DOSBox, as mentioned sync technologies were intended for other (to …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Breath of Fire IV has text issues, random squares behind the text and lines after it. Annoying, but playable. Does not work at all natively (DXGL, WineD3D, DXWnd and D3DWindower also all fail), so can't tell if font rendering issues are because of dgVoodoo2 or Nvidia. It's not an issue with the …

FreeSync or G-Sync monitors? I haven't tested FreeSync, but G-Sync seems to work in DOSBox. FreeSync requires an AMD card and G-Sync requires a Nvidia card, but if money's not a huge problem then I highly recommend it.

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Also I'll update my article on BOF4 as I could only run that in XP before. I just tested and it also runs in WineD3D (on a 570/Win7, less luck on a 670/Win8... weird). Poor framerate, but no text issues. Which could point to that not being a Nvidia bug, but a dgVoodoo2 bug. Looks like Dege's not …

If it just sets volume at startup (or at certain triggers) you can try this: http://blog.nirsoft.net/2011/02/25/how-to-control-the-volume-level-of-specific-application-from-command-line-on-windows-72008vista/ Also if the game supports microphone input in any way (for multiplayer), then check Windows …

Demo works fine with XP compatibility mode for me (except for damaging my hearing: setting volume to 100% at game start is not cool). NoGDIHWAcceleration seems to help framerate.

Even with classic shell, the UI still LOOKS awful. The window title bars are horrid. Worse than XP or even 9X There's uxtheme patchers for Win8. It'll take you all of five minutes to replace those title bars with something else. I consider it a necessity in XP and 7 as the default themes there are …

Re: Windows 8 beats XP in performance

I'm glad that MS is optimizing their operating systems nowadays. Upgrade frequency has certainly slowed since 2008 or so. Still, XP is not the rage-inducing experience that Win8/8.1 is. The code may be optimized, but its UI is certainly not. Vista and Win7 are pretty bad too, but can be made …
