Re: speed up 3d games

Zorbid wrote: You may have a look at DOS/32a too. True, though I'd like to add that, just in case you (the TS) haven't heard of DOS/32a, more info is in this thread: [ANN]: DOS/32A v9.1.2 has been released Good luck.

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

in DOSBox Patches
Thanks for the reply, Newest build: probably not relevant since I have ATI hardware but yes, switched between fullscreen and window several times, no crashes as usual. Though, it takes a while to switch between them, thus it takes a while to refresh the windows GUI. (game images on open windows)

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

in DOSBox Patches
You are right, in some cases, it is simply NOT possible. But I was thinking, if a human can make up a somewhat misinterpreted 3D environment out of 320*200 pixels, why couldn't a high end pc do so? (same goes for hq2x, 2xSAI in a 2D environment) This filter, like hq2x should only use the outputted …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

in DOSBox Patches
Another thing, for some reason, there's this filtering thing that has been playing in my mind lately, and I would like to get it of my chest. I've been thinking about a new filtering technique that more relates to 3D games. (while I'm not that much of a programmer, it's just an idea) Since a lot of …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

in DOSBox Patches
Weird, I remember swapping between the two last builds and having this problem (so with the same config) Guess what, it doesn't seem to happen anymore. Sorry for the possible false alarm. Anyway I did some performance testing. On a 1.7Ghz I found that mame3x was not significantly (but somewhat) …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

in DOSBox Patches
Graphics sure are looking crisp now. But I do notice that the latest build(27-4)filtering looks different...(a bit messy) The build before that looked like in the screenshots posted...the difference is very clear at the dosbox console. It looks a bit like inaccurate scaling and that some …

DosFreak wrote: I definetly don't consider overwriting files with 0byte ones a good thing....I could just be crazy tho. Suppose that some batch files make use of this behavior, things wouldn't work right. Anyway, most dos games (and apps) are not written with DOS 7 in mind so I think it's good the …

Re: descent 1&2 owners READ THIS

in GliDOS General
There is already a reworked version in the works of d2x by Dietfrid Mali. Ironically, it's this d2x version i just played 5 mins ago. http://www.brockart.de/descent/d2x.html It has a lot of bugfixes, better network support and (disgusting and very simplistic) coloured lightning but you can shut it …

Re: IPXNET settings

in DOSBox General
I believe that's not possible. You should make sure both machines use dosbox since the network is virtual and only exists within dosbox. I think that ipx is emulated through tcp/ip. the ipxnet connection can only be emulated using a tcp/ip internet (or lan) connection and that way you can use ipx. I …

dgVoodoo

I know the people here are familiar with this app. I haven't had the chance to try it because it doesn't work with descent 2 out but according to what people have to say on other forums it is faster than Glidos. The author of dgVoodoo posted some stuff on the board some months ago and I thought he …

Emulate SoundBlaster cards using soundfonts

Is it theoretically possible to generate a sf2 file (a soundfont) since dosbox can dump it's FM synth music in a wav anyway? FM SoundBlaster Emulation really would be faster in that case. You should load a soundblaster sf2 file in the soundbank for cards who support it, eg sb live! and set general …

Suggestions: Detect optimal cycles automaticly + KEYB

in DOSBox General
Would it be possible to add in an option into dosbox that's adjusts the cycles automaticly? I know this might be hard since best results with this might vary from game to game... And a second thing...I'm aware of the workaround for foreign keyboards (using the / instead OR change settings in the …
