A 486 and PIII system on steroids.

Re: Ultimate joystick

Although the conversation seems here to go in the direction of control sticks , I'd like to point out Directpad pro. http://arcadecontrols.com/Mirrors/www.ziplabel.com/dpadpro/ These are directions for building a small adaptor to plug console gamepads into the parallel port. Then you can use SNESKey …

Re: Keep DBs off SB16s!!

I've been wondering about the ESS Audiodrive cards. They have quite good SB compatibility and I think some of them have waveblaster headers. I also have a Philips Seismic Edge PCI card that has a waveblaster header that I will have to try out. I use a Terratec Gold 16/96 (ESS1868) with a Yamaha DB- …

Re: The Essential Sound Cards

"from the very beginning it..." By "it" I assume you mean the ACE, not the whole Gravis Ultrasound product line, which tried to compete with the Sound Blaster, unsuccessfully. ... If you remove the OPL2 chip, it should be as though the slot containing the device is empty, at least as it pertains to …

Re: The Essential Sound Cards

Since the ACE has been brought up, I'd like to point out that this is the only card in the GUS line that has a jumper to disable looking at 388h area of memory... aka the Adlib area. Compatibility with games that use Adlib sound in a machine that uses both a GUS and a SB is something I spent a lot …

Re: dsp 4.13 hang notes bug - any kind of test needed...

In the readme files of games incompatibilities are always listed. One finds lists documenting the various videocards and soundcards, tested and not-tested, and their quirks when using the software So, I wonder, are there any games out there that list this problem in the readme? Or even better, has …

Re: dsp 4.13 hang notes bug - any kind of test needed...

Now i want to know - is there any ultimate strong test for this bug? Where is appear always and constantly? I can't but agree with you. I've seen the thread where you explain the problem you had with the game Hocus Pocus. You are one of the few (only?) who actually tests instead of talking about a …

Re: My new retro PC

Spaz wrote: (Anyone know if it's even possible to get hold of a silver 5.25-inch floppy drive  ) I came across this reading up on scsi drive cooling. http://www.7volts.com/paint_drives.htm Should help you out quite well if you are new to that.

Re: Bad luck with eBay game on 3.5" disks...

in DOS
Yep, that's right. I wasn't sure you tried it. When I encounter a disk with an error and it is recoverable I backup and throw away the floppy anyway. It is always just the beginning of more errors.

Re: The Anti-DOSBox Machine

Only because I haven't found one for sale at a decent price. Also, it really be an original or preferably an ACE so I wouldn't have to be bothered with Sound Blaster clone chips on the MAX, Extreme or PnP. It is absolutely no problem to have both a GUS and SB. The SB emulation is only initialised …

Re: Value of the Gravis Ultrasound

The output quality of the GUS is higher than any of the cards Creative made during that period. I am one of those people who have a GUS because of the scene, but when playing a game, and having the choice between my GUS or SB16, the GUS will be the card I use. One heard much (and still) about …

Re: Speed of a Retro PC

Great Hierophant: I've gone through your previous posts and found the following from 2005-3-18. If I had the cash, I would go on a buying spree to get a few old PCs to play the old games as they were meant to be played. I would buy three or four PCs with the idea of achieving maximum compatibility. …

Re: Speed of a Retro PC

Hmm, I didn't expect you would want to use a modem (why?). 5u3 has an ET6000, but this card shows strange behaviour when he runs scene demos. He swaps it with an isa card in such cases. If scene demos have problems, then there is always the possibility games can show the same problems. Not only for …

Re: Speed of a Retro PC

To dwvjr: Excellent post. It stands as a pillar giving strength to the ideas behind this forum. I'm sure it will be informative to countless visitors. to Great Hierophant: Judging by the photos full length cards should fit. Dell even added the extra card holder to secure full length cards. A …
