Re: No music in Dungeon Keeper

It's hard to imagine that soundfont MIDI would produce a superior result compared to the audio tracks, so I would recommend using an image of the disc mounted in DOSBox to ensure than you can hear the CD audio without any Vista-related problems. IMO, the BGM is more atmospheric than musical, and …

Re: No music in Dungeon Keeper

AFAIK, the only music in Dungeon Keeper comes from audio tracks on the CD. Where in the game does it even mention MIDI? EDIT: There are some .SBK soundfont files that are installed, and they are copyright by Creative. It's possible that a MIDI music option is enabled if you have an AWE32; and if …

Re: Roland MT-32 & Dos Box

Later models added a headphone jack. There was also a company (long gone, AFAIK) that would "mod" first gen units, and that included putting in a headphone jack. Such modded units are considerably harder to find on eBay and such. My rig is based around my SB Audigy soundcard. The MT-32 is hooked up …

Re: Roland MT-32 & Dos Box

Well, you will be adding to your "litter" with external synth modules. ;) SoundCanvas synths will work well for DOS games that support General MIDI; in fact many such games were probably composed for, and will sound ideal on, the SC-55. SC's also have an MT-32 emulation mode that will sound alright …

Re: Drums of midi files broken after DosBox usage

I've noticed that the percussion instruments are replaced with melodic ones after playing DOOM-engine games in DOSBox, and then running the same game in a port like ZDOOM. I figured this was due to channel 10, which is normally the percussion channel, being "remapped" to another channel or some such …

Re: Atlantis: The lost tales

Dunno, but I can say that the game does not use a handler driven by mouse events, where the rate of the events could be a factor. It polls with function 3 and re-positions to center with function 4 on its own internal schedule. My theory is that the recentering is done on a timer, while reading …

Re: Atlantis: The lost tales

It makes little difference for this game. Even cranking mouse sensitivity to very high levels has little effect on the in-game control, although the pointer in menus is changed by the sensitivity. Try a rate cut of 10 or more; it will make a very noticeable difference in response.

Re: Atlantis: The lost tales

After some investigation into why this game is so unresponsive to mouse movement in DOSBox, I could not find a clear problem, but learned of a way to improve response. A control system is used that periodically repositions the mouse coordinates to 320,240 (center of the 640x480 video resolution), …
