Re: dos batch string manipulation

well, that reference site calls itself DOS Tips yet says it's "for Windows 7, VISTA ,XP, NT, Server 2000, Server 2003, Server 2008". [cue Family Guy style showtune parody - "the Windows command prompt isn't DOS, isn't DOS, isn't DOS" ] Do you need the extension-less pathname as a variable? or just …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

yeah, I guess that determining the license status of the original CW games would be a headache all unto itself. however, there *is* a DOS port of Beyond Castle Wolfenstein out there - with some enhancements such as SB support. Can't really say how playable or complete it is; but it's been out there …

seriously, handbagsca wasn't banned yet? my puns in this thread are lame enough already, and I don't wanna have to conclude that "things are going to hell in a handbagsca" Post 245888

Re: DOSBOX or VB Bug?

ok then, those three extra characters are "EF BB BF" in 8bit ascii, and that's indeed the Byte Order Mark for UTF-8 (if you check the wikipedia link in my previous post). your screenshot also indicates that those .RPD files might be suffering from the same symptom as the .BAT file, since the initial …

Re: DOSBOX or VB Bug?

If those weird extra characters only appear at the beginning of the file, they're probably a Byte Order Mark (an optional header for Unicode text files - signifying the encoding type and the byte-order/endianness). VB might be auto-inserting this BOM whenever text files are written. http:// …

Re: DOSBOX or VB Bug?

Yeah, please post an example of what happens when you "TYPE" the VB-created batchfile within DOSBox vs. the notepad-created one. weird encoding could cause something like that, too (UTF-16 for example?) also, I'm wondering what "DOS64" might be 😁
