Re: Discworld2 & XP

Ooops! Forgot to mention ONE IMPORTANT THING: This game issues a call to UVCONFIG.EXE whether you like it or not and may be reporting bad VESA support. So I just created an exe file with Turbo Pascal that does just nothing. Renamed it to UVCONFIG.EXE and Vòila!. This is my "modified" UVCONFIG.EXE. …

Re: The Chaos Engine

It's working for me, although music & sounds sound like crap and at incredibly slow pace. It seems this game does a lot of nasty PIT reprogramming. The SB detection routine also sucks big time. BTW: This game doesn't run well even under pure DOS. I'm surmising that's because of faster new processors …

Re: Discworld2 & XP

You need to place a VBEPLUS statement inside the DW2.BAT file. This will call VBEPLUS a very very nice VESA replacement... http://unirefresh.demonews.com This is the address. It if doesn't work I can send VBEPLUS + another nifty vesa util to you. It weights just 10KB Here...

This may sound stupid but have you tried running it using VDMSound?. Often, is a good alternative to DOSBOX emulation.

Re: Discworld2 & XP

I'm playing it right now, so I know it works under XP, but there's a glitch to it. You won't believe but windows version doesn't work because it uses some strange DX 3.x calls which WinXP doesn't seem to support anymore. So, the solution is to run the DOS version inside XP [/b]. Fun, isn't it?. It …

Re: Blood Bowl WinXP

Have you tried it under real DOS (with a bootable disc)? Then you can try step by step. First of all, try running it under WinXP without any sound at all. If it works, then it must be some problem with the sound emulation. Are you sure that you have specified right values for IRQ, DMA, etc in the …

in DOS
Yes, I also tried VGABIOS and I got the same garbled screen. I went ahead and flashed the bios; obviously got the same garbled screen. Maybe it wasn't a reference bios, although Ray Adam's bios editor and flash program stated it was. Anyway, I'm back to starting point. I wonder why manufacturers …

Who can explain this?

I've noticed that sometimes some game(s) will run better if using VDMSound withouth the Launchpad. Why is this? I mean even selecting same parameters for Launchpad of those that are inside the INI file. ???

HunterZ: I've been tinkering with bios options all day and have tried the 'snoop palette' option both enabled and disabled. I have even disabled USB and put agp speed to 2x. NO change. Anyway, I doubt my card is damaged because everything else is working properly, even another DOS games. Thanks God …

Re: Getting more base memory in DOS

If you use a PIF file try checking the reserved checkbox under Conventional Memory properties but i doubt it will do anything. No harm in trying, though.

Re: VESA isn't only video problem under XP

in DOS
Thank you very much. To make things worse, I run those games under real DOS and still I got the same palette issues, so I am afraid it's some sort of hardware problem with my card. I'm trying to find a bios replacement (even if it's a reference bios, because I have already dumped my current bios to …

Nicht Sehr Gut and others: Again, thank you very much for your replies. By messed-up display, I just mean the colour palette isn't right. Checked bios. All settings seemed to be just right. I have tried three different detonator revisions to no avail. Also I tried both games under DosBox. Both of …
