I am trying to get Frederik Pohl's Gateway (an old DOS game from Legend Entertainment) to produce good sound. The game can be configured to use a Soundblaster or Adlib card, but I remember getting really excellent music by configuring it to use an MT-32. It does not have an option for General Midi.
When I configure the game to use an MT-32 device at IO port 0x330 and IRQ 2 (the defaults), and then start it up under VDMSound, I get an error dialog saying "Unable to access the MT32 on IRQ channel 2."
I have gotten Adlib and SoundBlaster emulation working successfully. And my VDMS.INI file looks fine (port 0x330 and IRQ 2 set in the MPU401 Controller section). So I suspect the game is doing some kind of test for the MT-32 which VDMSound does not implement.
I have tried on both Windows XP and Windows 2000 with identical results. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
