OK I know this is a bit off toppic but your forum seams to be realy good at solving problems.

I'm using abandon loader with VDMSound to load UW2 on a windows 2000 machine. I know that the VDMSound works and is installed as it runs with other games. When loading it loads and gets as far as the first line from the UW2 loading sequence

"EMS allocated" then it freezes.

Does any one know how to get past this problem. Ive been trying to get this game working ever since my original disks corrupted years ago.

Please register if you could. As you said, this really isn't the proper forum, but if I move it you can't reply.

Well, like one of the Connectix guys says, every DOS program is like it's own operating system. There's no single fix for each and every one of them, simply too many variables like DOS4GW extenders, etc...

Having said that I also don't know much about "AbandonLoader"...

Hold on, you're not saying that this is corrupted set of files are you? You got a replacement CD or something, right?

Well, Ive yet to try it myself, but Sir Cabirus has a patch (really more of a hack) you can try.

Basically, the game's executable tries to do something that the NT OS simply won't allow, which locks the program. Sir Cabirus' patch bypasses this. Having said that, I'm not sure if this is the same error as you're getting. Make a backup of the original, then give it a whirl.

It's a pretty neat program from what I hear, but I don't use it myself:

We get users every once in a while who say they use it. Search the forums.

Phbbt. I know of it, I've just never used it.

I'd like to hear from aka to see if the patch referenced worked.

Yes, it’s my fault.

I'm pretty sure that it must have worked as that is exactly how it behaves pre-patching.
Unless you are "blessed" with one of those machines that don't have ems working for some strange reason (like my laptop).
