VDMSound doesn't care about your soundcard, actually VDSMound should be detected by games even if you have *no* soundcard at all (weird, huh?)

Yes I know it shouldn't matter but seeing as I only have the problem I figured it has to be some hardware issue.
BTW, did you check the log file yet to see if you can detect any problems ? Cause as far as I could see it should work.

According to the log (VDMS.TXT), 'D:\ALBION\DRIVERS\SETSOUND.EXE' didn't even "touch" the emulation. See Nicht's post -- you may have an incomplete copy of the game!

Nope, I've got the original CD so I'm pretty sure it's complete.

And I tried using a file that had the soundblaster card set to use the right values and tried to run it with Albion. But it would just complain about no soundcard so I'm running out of ideas on what could be wrong.

Sure thing, could you give me/us a link for a tool that goes through sub-folders too ?

Erm, you sure you got it right ? Since all the CRC's and MD5's are just alot of question marks, ie:

ALBILOW.BAT ????????
ALBILOW.vlp ????????
ALBION.EXE ????????

etc.

Well, here are my CRC/MD5 lists

Don't know what to tell you. All of yours and all of mine are coming up with the "file not found" marker.

Did you use hkSFV32 ?
Did you put the files in the Albion dir ?

Yes. I'm not sure why it's doing this. Even when I generate a new file, it's telling me that the files I'm cataloging aren't there. Beats the heck out of me.

Did you put the files in the Albion dir ?

Which files do you mean?

Ok, that was the key apparently. I thought it knew to compare with the location I was using with the CRC file. When I check Vex's MD5 and SFV against my Albion:

D:\ALBION\DRIVERS\DOS4GW.EXE FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\DRIVERS\SETSOUND.vlp FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\INSTALL.LBM FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\INSTALL.SCR FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\MAIN.vlp FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\README.TXT FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\SAVES\SAVE.100 FILE NOT FOUND

The vlp files, the README, and the save file can be ignored.
My main concern are these:
D:\ALBION\DRIVERS\DOS4GW.EXE FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\INSTALL.LBM FILE NOT FOUND
D:\ALBION\INSTALL.SCR FILE NOT FOUND

Are they not in your game directory? (The LBM is just an image file when starting the setup, but still...)

Attached my "updated" CRC files

Weird since I have the files, what's even weirder is that the CRC/MD5 checksums doesn't match for those files and the readme.

Your CRC - My CRC - File
cb214447 - 5cc34b0f - DRIVERS\DOS4GW.EXE
ce251c9f - 4b9b4c35 - INSTALL.LBM
ac0b6a1f - 2cd0067f - INSTALL.SCR
78f69cb9 - b835befc - README.TXT

These are the first lines from my readme (Albion v1.38):

Wow - could it all come down to DOS4GW.EXE? What are you guys' respective versions (if you just double-click on DOS4GW.EXE)?

Wow, I'm gonna get this new version of hkSFV32. MD5 support and it'll do subdirectories now! Woohoo!

DOS4GW.EXE version is 1.97 over here.
Also checked against the DOS4GW list on this board (by Snover ?):
1_97.EXE = 0x5CC34B0F <- the one I have.

UPDATE: Ok, just tried switching to the DOS4GW Nicht's CRC file pointed out without luck 😒

Well that may be the key, mine is:
**************************************
* Additional documentation to *
* ALBION *
* English version (7/29/1996) *
**************************************

My version on the start page is
v1.38
Jul 25 1996
12:39:09

You have the European version, by chance?

Yeah I live in Europe so I guess they changed the date format in the readme.
Albion also tells me v1.38 (created at Jul 25 1996 12:39:09) on the menu screen so I don't think they've changed something else.

UPDATE: Just found the box, seems like I have the Blue Byte Classics box. But I don't think they've changed anything.

You never can tell. It would explain why the CRC's didn't match.

The 4 files that didn't match the CRC was:
readme.txt (just a readme)
drivers\dos4gw.exe (you know)
install.lbm (install pic)
install.scr (install script)

and does haven't got anything to do with the main game itself after installation so I don't know what's wrong 😒
Any game that you know that doesn't work with XP's built in SB emu but works with VDMSound ?
I'm almost sure that the problem is on the hardware side rather than on the software side.
