Just tested the combo consisting of basic RB plus the two files you have got. I think it's ideal to get started. The files are self-installung and you do not have to dive into the relatively complex "science" of advanced RB-patching, before you can test/play.
The combination of files is more or less representative, as they contain advanced aircraft models, terrain, sound, objects and smoke and fire patches. I could reproduce all the remaining issues, which I still observe on my sys, and which are mentioned on various other boards as well. (AMD 1,4, 512 mb Ram, Geforce 2/mx 400, WIN ME, Latest nvidia detonator driver set installed.)
Significant framerate drop, when sunglare is switched on.
Same, when I get wounded, which is indicated by sort of red haze(?) on the screen.
The grey block behind the guns in F2-view.(cockpit slew view).
The " transparancy issue". Those parts of the textures for wings, elevators and rudder, which are painted in RGB 0,0,0 black should not be visible. On some aircraft parts, where they overlap with the corresponding 3D shape, they are however displayed in a dark grey. But not consistently!
