Today I published zBoy v0.71, so I thought it's a good occasion to drop a note here on Vogons about it, since I apparently never have.

zBoy is a multiplatform emulator of the classic (black & white) GameBoy. It runs on Linux, BSD, Windows, MS-DOS, and probably some other platforms. Version 0.71 brings improved sound support, some minor optimizations and a joypad-related bugfix.

a new emulator for DOS!

Not that new - I released the first public version 10 years ago... :-)

what are the system requirements?

It's a 32-bit (protected mode) application, so it requires at least a 386. But for comfortable performances I'd rather recommend a Pentium-class CPU.

I'm sure, as time goes on, you'll be able to improve things so it can run on a 40MHz "486" just like old NO$GMB.. 😀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXAIta5K0ko
Except, of course, you're aiming for perfection/accuracy.. In that case, quality has its price. Just hope it doesn't go sky high like bsnes, hah. 😅

I hope you didn't get it the wrong way. 😅 I didn't meant to discourage anyone.
The other emulator I mentioned started in the 90s and is nearly 20 years old by now. And a lot of things changed since then.
Many new algorithms and an increase in emulation knowledge appeared (principle of dynamic recompilation etc).
Or in other words, the existing Gameboy emulators still lack certain features, for example:
* Emulation of GB camera through webcam
* Support of the GBC infrared port trough a PC's irDA device
* LinkCable connection between real GB and PC
* Authentic emulation of the old dot-matrix LCD screen (shades, ghosting, ability to set contrast)
