Building the Ultimate Audio / Gaming computer.

It took me about 6 months to gather up these parts.
My first original build I found to be under powered for Win-XP so I upgraded the motherboard, CPU and ram.
This computer was really easy to build and setup with MS-Windows-XP , OEM drivers and WinXP provided drivers.

I really like this choice of audio cards. They have good clear sound, treble and bass.

Thanks.

Pretty nice looking build there!

Is the aim to play games, or produce/record music?

I mainly want this for listening to music and playing games.
Win98se games mainly.
How can I make this more build better ?

What do you mean better?
Whats the video card and what games are you playing?
Depending on those answers maybe a better graphics card, but if it playing everything nicely then it doesn't really matter.
Rounded floppy and 80 pin IDE cables? makes the inside look better?

But really its a pretty good build already 😀

Not sure of the reason behind two Envy24 based cards.

Yeah, I did not tie up the cables very good because I wanted to make sure everything worked first.
I will have to go back and perform better cable management.

You are right, I added the second card for toslink support but the DMX 6fire also has toslink support in the drive so I don’t need the other card.

I can remove the EWX 24/96 card and maybe add a PCI card with Yamaha OPL support.

What card can you recommend ?

Depends what you want. A Yamaha YMF-7x4 PCI would be good for DOS games and OPL support, but a Vortex 2 would be better if you want A3D support.

Okay, Yeah.

I have a Vortex-2 PCI lying around somewhere. I was thinking maybe a Yamaha XG PCI.
I need cards that are Win2000 compatible.

Quick Google says it's an Asus V9280/64M Geforce 4 Ti4200, AGP not PCIE 😉

By the way, I might be mistaken but I think the Terratec DMX 6fire sound module has a wavetable connector in the front connector box - I used mine with a Korg DB once upon a time. Should be easy to take the top cover off to have a look.

The motherboard doesn't have an universal or 3,3V AGP Slot. So it will not fit.

What do you think?
I can replace the motherboard with an Asus P3 1ghz with APG then I can use a Voodoo-3.
Is it worth it or should I just keep this motherboard ?

I want to be able to play the most variety of PC games.

More Photos for you non-believers.
Currently running WinXP-Pro and all the TerraTec default drivers load just fine.

I plan on swapping out the motherboard for an Asus P3, 1ghz. later and Installing Dual boot Win-2000-Pro and DOS and upgrading to an SSD.

Just slapped this together real quick to make sure everything works. And it does.

Runs steam too.
