Here is a build I have been playin with. Basic specs and a few benchmarks.
If there is enough interest I can probably post up photos as well.
Shoutout to Sphere478 for the advice on ship selection and inspiration to make a passing thought a reality.
I call this build "Sir Scraps a Lot"
it is comprised mostly of either spare parts left over from other builds, and/or stuff salvaged or bought from gold recovery on eBay.

Specs:
PC Chips M571 motherboard
All fastest ram/cache options in BIOS
Cyrix MII 266GP 2.0v 75x4@300MHZ
1x128MB Cl2 SDRAM PC100
ATI Rage XL 8MB PCI video
ESS AudioDrive 1868 ISA sound card
VIA USB 2.0 PCI (USB 2.o disabled, no performance penalty)
WD 20GB HDD UDMA2
Basic 32x CD-ROM (not sure of the brand)
No-name baby-AT case. Black in color, to be different like the rest of the build
Windows 98SE, DX7.0 No unofficial patches other than NUSB

Ok, here are the DOS and Windows benchmarks that I have ran so far.
I don't have a ton of PCI graphics cards, thus the Rage XL. I did install my PCI Voodoo3 and run 3dmark 99. By the numbers it appears to be a moderate CPU bottleneck at that point.

Phil's DOSbench:
3dBench (slow PC) 223.4
3dbench (fast PC) 50.0
Chris 3dBench (slow PC) 128.8
Chris 3dbench (fast PC) 27.0
PC Player Benchmark 320x200: 69.2
PC Player 640x480: 14.3
Doom Minimum: 2134 in 255
Doom Max: 2134 in 1354
Quake Low: 44fps
Quake High: 9.3
Sysinfo: 139.9
Topbench: 407
Speedsys: CPU score of: 199.99 from Windows 98 command prompt. Hangs at read MSRs when ran from DOS
Landmark: 3585 CPU/3957 FPU

A few Windows Benchmarks:

3dmark 99 Default benchmark (Rage XL):
817 3dmarks, 1341 CPU 3dmarks
3dmark 99 Default benchmark (Voodoo 3):
972 3dmarks, 1319 CPU 3dmarks

3dmark 2000 Rage XL: 128
Final Reality: 1.82

If anyone would like me to run anything else, please let me know.

EDIT: Forgot to add Quake2 640x480 demo.dm2 14.8fps

Cool build. Good job :p

I’d like to see the 3dm 2000 scores 😀

Keep an eye out for a slim green radeon 7500 on ebay. They pop up from time to time for under 50$ but there is usually some clown trying to sell one for 200 🤣

Edit:
This is what it pulled in the 3dmark 2000 default benchmark (1024x768x16) 3dmark 2000 Rage XL: 128
I included it above but I didn't ear mark it very well.

I can try running at lower resolution if you would like?

I will keep and eye out for one.
I have an AGP version of 7500 and 7200, but not PCI.

I have several 2D Trident cards, one Tseng ET6000 that is in my Cyrix 5x86 machine.
I couldn't get it to post with my Radeon 9250se, a shame as it is a 128bit version and a decent performer.
It also wouldn't post with my Diamond FireGL 1000 PCI, which I think is Permedia 2? I was hoping that one would work. Be and odd combo.

I actually have two of the RageXL cards. They seem to perform pretty much identically, and neither one is and overclocker.

Oh, 128 is your score?

Yeah, you need a new gfx card man. 😀 I’m getting 1900 with a radeon 7500 and k6-3+ at 400 66fsb simm memory on my tyan s1564

I have a 9250 and a 9200 that work well in these systems. Almost as fast as the 7500.

Shame yours won’t post.

I think some of those sis boards are using pci 2.2 spec.

Yeah with the Cyrix on the PC Chips board.
Now with either the Soyo or the Tekram boards with the K6-3+ I am doing much better with a Voodoo 3
3dMark 99:
Default Benchmark 800x600x16
3222 3dMarks
7510 CPU Marks

3dMark 2000: 1024x768x16
1617 3dMarks

I guess I can try my 7200 and 7500 in this board to see how they compare. If they work correctly.
Were you able to get AGP to work properly on yours?
It works great with my nVidia cards but not well at with the ATi ones.

I have many mobos some with and some without agp.

Usually you just keep switching cards till you find one that it likes. Goes for agp and pci honestly. But my intel chipset boards love my radeon 7500 pci and most of my ss7 agp boards like my radeon 9000

But my freeway likes my 9800 pro. So that is nice 😀

Yeah seems like you have had some better luck with AGP and ATi on SS7 than I have.
I have used Powerstrip to force Agp, but that seems more of a workaround than anything else.
