N-force 2 was an excellent chipset, I originally had an 1800XP then upgraded to a barton 2500XP overclocked to 3200XP levels, how does that machine hold up with modern browsing?

Where's the C64?

IBM did make some very handsome PC's, but yeah what's with the OPTi Viper chipset? The Redhill guide states that the Viper was an unreliable flop, have you had any trouble with it?

Thanks for sharing!

I'm looking for a Sun Sparc community so I can find a copy of the SunPC (not SunPCI) software.

I love your Aptiva!!!!

I had a similar one through my University days but mine had an intel Pentium 75....it was my 3rd computer I owned (My first being a Tandy Color Computer 3 and my second a 486SX25 "Pizza Box" style VTech PC).

I remember selling it to a friend of mine a year later for half of what I bought it for (it was about $2300USD new at that time!!!) I wish I never sold it.

The crappy MWave card left a lot to be desired though...except come to think of it, I did make very good use out of the speakerphone software that was included. I could record phone conversations and I left my computer on all day because it worked as an answering machine as well.

Did you have an MWave card in there originally?

I sold the C64 for getting enough money for the Aptiva back then.

The Viper was the last chipset from OPTi - appearantly they had no chance against the upcoming Intel-chipsets...

It runs very stable, but compared to Intel chipsets of that time somewhat slowish. And it needs exotic asynchronous COAST modules, which are slower than the common sync/piplened burst modules.

Thank you! 😎

My Aptiva originally came with P75, 8 MB FPM and 540MB HDD. I was lucky to get one with Vibra16-ISA-board with Yamaha-chip (so essentially an SB16) and not MWave.

I had an SGI Indy once upon a time. R4600-133, 256MB RAM, 4GB drive. It had the 8bit XL video card when I got it but I upgraded to the 24bit XL. Always regretted selling it. I've always thought about buying another one, but with the R5000-180.

I think I have a pic of it somewhere.

I'll post pics of my machines tonight, but I did take pics of the remainder of my video card collection.

video_cards01_zps2c5346fa.jpg

This is the Matrox collection (with one exception). Pictured is a 32MB G450 Dual Head AGP, 16MB G400 Dual Head PCI, 16MB G400 NLX AGP, and an 8MB G200 NLX AGP.

This is what I've reduced it down to. I've owned more G400's and G200's in the past but have sold them off.

This is the pride and joy of my Matrox cards.
mystique_rr_01_zps39851ef3.jpg

Matrox Mystique220 w/Rainbow Runner capture daughterboard. I've owned the Mystique for almost 16 years, the RR for maybe 12. This combination has pretty much ensured that Windows98SE will always have a presence on my network at some point.

video_cards02_zpsc408581c.jpg

My ATI cards that aren't in use. The Rage Pro Turbo has an NLX mounting bracket installed. This was installed in my Gateway E3200 until I started rethinking the purpose of that box. It was replaced by a Radeon 7000 PCI card identical to the one in this pic. Not pictured ('cause I'm using it) is a Radeon 7200 PCI (in use in my other Gateway machine).

video_cards03_zpse31e9df0.jpg

This is "Team Nvidia". Pictured is a 64MB Geforce2MX AGP, 256MB Geforce FX5500 AGP (which seems to have an issue with temperatures), Geforce 512MB 8400GS PCI-E, and a 768MB Quadro 1800FX. Not pictured is the 64MB Elsa Gloria II with the very first Quadro.

It pains me to think about it... but I had more cards than this back in Sept. I tossed a bunch of cards out while unpacking after we moved and they included some random TNT2-M64 card, a fairly unique Rage Pro Turbo w/Video IO on it as well as some additional IO (only had 6MB of memory, 4MB on board and 2MB on a SODIMM) and a couple of G200's.

Just picked up about 18 SGI machines from a collection. I now own 15 indys (going to sell some).

One of the Indys is an R4400/200 with XZ video, which should be nice to try. Couple of the o2 are R10K too (only 175MHz though).

I posted this over at OCAU as well 😀
