I've had a slot A motherboard and processor for sometime but never put it to use due to not having the right Graphics card and case. The other day I managed to get hold of a cheap-ish Voodoo 5 which then set me on the look out for a case. I managed to find a very well built Viglen case at work which was unused, this thing is very sturdy so tonight set off to rebuild it all.
The build is from the year 2000 era, I've tried to build a year 2000 specification. Some sites when the Voodoo 5 came out were benchmarks on slot A Athlons.
System Specification
CPU AMD Athlon Slot A 750mhz @ 825 (110mhz FSB)
Motherboard Gigabyte 7IXE, AMD 751 Chipset
RAM 256mb Crucial PC100 CAS2 Ram
Graphics Card 64mb 3Dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
Sound Card Creative Sound Blaster Live! CT4760
NIC Allied Telesyn AT-2500TX 10/100 PCI
Storage 40Gb Western Digital 7200rpm IDE Hard Drive
Optical Sony DVD-ROM
Optical Philips CDRW2412A
Optical Iomega ZIP250 Drive (ATAPI)
PSU FSP 300w
OS Windows 98 SE

Even a slight overclock, its rock solid at this speed/fsb!
I've been playing Quake 3, Unreal Tournament Dark Forces Jedi Knight on it so far all at 1280x1024 and looks fantastic. Image quality seems much sharper than the Geforce 2 GTS I was running in my PIII build.
Just waiting for a Promise ATA133 PCI controller to hook up the Zip drive.
Hope you like 😀
