Hi,
i'm Ragnar G.D., new here, a somewhat regular guest on msfn.org, and here are the two most interesting rigs of my collection:
(dusty aesthetics, as they build a big house next to mine... the beauty shines from inside... 😁 )
MB: 4CoreDual-eSATA2 R2.0 with Beta-Bios for more Ram - switched off: OnBoard LAN, Onboard Sound
Ram: 4GB = 2*2GB DDR2-667 (W98SE sees 1GB by Usher's Method, XP sees 3.3GB, Windows 10 Home 64bit sees 3.3GB)
CPU: C2Q Q6600 2.4 GHz, 95W, passively cooled with a Zalman FX 100
GPU: MSI GeForce 7600GT AGP 256MB (passively cooled)
LAN: Intel Pro/1000 MT PCI Gigabit
Sound: Soundblaster Audigy PCI
ODD: 1* IDE-Master LG DVD-RW, 1* IDE-Slave LG DVD-R
HDDs:
W98SE on 30 GB IDE-Master SSD Transcend PSD330
XP Pro on 30 GB IDE-Slave SSD Transcend PSD330
Windows 10 on 120GB SATA II SSD SuperTalent MLC on SATA 1-port 1 (invisible to W98SE)
(and one free SATA 1-port at the internal docking station of the case)
MB: Gigabyte EP35-DS3R - switched off: USB2.0 ports, Audio, Marvell SATAII controller
Ram: 8GB = 4*2GB DDRII-800 (W98SE sees 1GB by Ushers Method, XP Pro sees 3.4GB, Windows 10 Pro 64bit sees all of it)
CPU: C2Q 9550S 2.83GHz, 65W, passively cooled with the beautiful Titan Vanessa L-Type
GPU: Foxcon GeForce 7600GT PCIe 256MB, passively cooled with an Accelero S2
LAN: internal PCIe Gigabit
Sound: Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum PCI with Frontpanel (i.e for my Fender Bullet eGuitar... 😎 )
AddIn-card PCI USB-2.0 for two internal and four external USB2.0 ports
AddIn Card PCI SATA-1 controller with two SATA 1-ports, as W98SE cannot boot from ICH9R in AHCI-mode
AddIn Card PCIe two internal and two external USB3.0 ports (not recognized by W98SE, of course... 😀 )
ODD: LG DVD-RW on SATA-1 port 2
HDDS:
W98SE on 60GB SATAII SSD SuperTalent MLC on SATA 1-port 1
XP Pro on 120GB SATA II SSD SuperTalent MLC on SATA II-port 2 (invisible to W98SE)
Windows 10 Pro 64bit on 120GB SATA II SSD SuperTalent MLC on SATA II-port 3 (invisible to W98SE)
Both cases have one 12" vent and one 14" vent each, running at ~800 rpm, and each a semi-passive 450W power supply.
I'm pretty sure there are not much rigs that run both W98SE and Windows 10 with full driver support, DX9.0c and EAX 3.0... the 4coreDual was running 3 days after Windows 10 launch... BonusPoints, because even at full speed during benchmarks, you can barely hear them, and both are completely silent when running idle.... 😁
Both use 70W-73W in idle mode.
Cheers,
Ragnar G.D.
My posts on the subject of W98SE legacy are dedicated to Rudolph Loew, (+11/ 2019, *1952), as without his work my builds would not be possible.
