If you have a better Card, would you like to try Bioshock ?

Edit Bioshock.ini to this:
[Havok]

HavokNumThreads=2

Now you can use both Athlon CPUs for your Game.

Also Oblivion can be tweaked to use more threads.
For physics and audio etc.

i did this to run it on dual p3's.

Sure does! anything up to and including an Audigy 4 will work in 98.

How's the resampling for 44.1khz PCM playback compared to other cards you know?

Not sure, I just like the cleaner output and the less bloated drivers then the Live! had. Supporting pretty much any EAX version a 9x game might have is a bonus as well

Thanks...I may give oblivion a try, especially if I decide to make the change to XP and use the 3850.

Here are the SMP Tweaks.

Oblivion works fine with a 9700 or 9800 Pro.

i also remember playing Stalker well with a 9800 😀
but even the newest (CoP) is only single thread..

Finally got around to running a few benches. Seems about right for 3dmark2001. I was guessing around 12-13k.

2003 gives an error on install. I'll try to figure out what's wrong. Everything else has been great! UT2003 runs surprisingly well. I've been playing Diablo 2 the past couple days. Forgot how much I liked that game! I hadn't played in at least 4 years. Also loaded up Flatout which is always a hoot. I'll try a few more benches and other games tonite.

Not much to speak of. System works great but I've been focusing on other builds (yes I have a problem 🤣). You mentioned glide and I was thinkin about putting my Voodoo 5 in here but I think the 9700 is a better match for this setup. And my voodoo 5 needs to stay in my Slot A build for nostalgia reasons 😀

Of course Win98 wont support the 2nd CPU. I was happily surprised how many Win9x games fun fine in Win2000 though 😀
Out of my games I think either Need for Speed 3,4 or 5 was the only game that really wanted Win9x

Correct. It was Need for Speed - High Stakes (I believe that was number 4?). Porsche Unleashed (number 5) has a patch needed for 2k and XP. I don't have number 3 so not sure about that one. High Stakes has no workaround to my knowledge.

I'm sure there are others but every other game I have that I've tried works fine on 2k. Others would disagree, but to me, 2k seems a more robust OS than 98, and I've definitely had far fewer issues with it than 98. More stable, SMP support, and you don't miss much in terms of games/programs that won't work on it - just a handful. IMHO 😊

Both 2k and XP support SMP, but 9X does not.

Yep. I'll try to run some benches the next few days. I know there are only a few games that take advantage of SMP. So for most games not much at all. But I do think the system is overall snappier and quicker when multitasking than my other Athlon XP board/CPU combos. One is a mobile 2400+ clocked at 2.3ghz and the other is a 2400+ with a 133 bus clocked at the default 2.0 ghz. I think the 3850 that I mentioned might be the best match with the overclocked mobile chip...as an added bonus that other board has SATA.

Well, did you think about the power consumption of this machine? I also have a Dual MP on a Tyan board, and I was shocked about a power consumption of more than 170 watts at idle.

I'm always curious about the power consumption, now I use a Corer2Duo Mobile for the higher end retro gaming (W2k and WXP), consuming max 85 watt at full load, and a pentium II-350 for the lower end retro Gaming (Win9x, DOS and OS2 Warp) consuming max 50 watt at full load. Also do stuff like, replacing 3.5" into 2,5" harddisks, makes about -4 to -8 Watt, and stuff like that.

If power was really a concern just about all the old PC's here wouldn't exist!
Just like a classic car, sure they aren't as efficient, expensive to run and require bit more up keep, not even practical as your "daily driver" but that's not the point!

Agreed. Also I don't use this or any of my other retro rigs 24/7 or anything close to that. It varies all the time especially because I sometimes rotate my builds, but this rig sees maybe 2-3 hours of usage a week.

Nice machine. Almost like mine, but that 9700 isn't a Pro. It's just the regular 9700.

Both of you have nice setups. I have the same board only difference is im running unbuffered pc2700 2 512mb sticks hynix. I also run a not period correct gim'd 4650.Works good now it was a issue with a pci nic card i was running. I score 11,755 on 3dmark01se. Honestly i think the era wasnt much nice to the dually. Single cpu setups can score in the 13k and up. Just doing something different is the game.
