have you checked that v5500 in another system? quite a few of those cards are flashed with the macintosh bios. (and vise versa)

I know that you have a few ASUS P/I-P65UP5's, including this ones big brother.

Have you by any chance flashed the BIOS on one of your boards, and if so, what flash utility did you use? (As I really don't want to mess this up and have to go the way of using a chip programmer!)

I did flash it, but its been over a decade since. But if I recall correctly I just downloaded whatever was available from the asus website at the time.

if that didnt work, i would have searched google for the bios flash program for the chipset and flash chip combo

now that I have a programmer... I jsut do direct programs.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I'm considering this chassis for this board, as it has a form factor that's pretty much incompatible with 99.9% of PC cases. (That CPU card seemed like a good idea, but it's almost impossible to fit into anything)

It would be an awesome way to showcase this system!

This is an extremely expensive chassis, so I'd only consider it if I can get the Voodoo5 5500 running on this board. (This is not going to happen this year though!)

Holy fudge, that is one sexy "case"! Dare I ask, what the price is? It would be soooo nice for a BP6 with GoldenOrbs as well 😀

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

I made something similar out of X chanel. It was cool, but not as useful or protective as a standard case. I kept almost frying it by things hitting or falling on it

Also finding ways to mount things to it like large drives was annoying

It’s called the InWin X-Frame 2.0 Chassis and it goes for around about $1200. (Not ridiculously expensive, but pretty expensive!)

What also kind of limits the kind of chassis I can use for this build, especially if I wanted to use a retro chassis, is the length of the longest card I'm going to be fitting into this system:

aaZ2KPp.jpg

It dwarfs a GTX 690 in terms of its length!!! (Even if you remove the securing bracket!)

Wow, that’s a sexy scsi card. What controller is that under the heatsink? Surprised it isn’t 64-bit pci.

Going for speed or coolness of scsi?

Because there are sata cards kinda like that also :p (shorter)

i'd wager heavily on this:

most likely the BGA version, if it matters

That’s what I was wondering actually. My sata card has that chip also

Here I'm more going for the coolness of SCSI, however the card will be fast enough to offer good drive performance in this system! 😀

As far as I know it's an Intel i960 CPU:

There is a new bluescsi pi version which is said to be able to saturate 50 pin scsi at basically the fastest speed. If you planned on using 50 pin cables this may be worth a look.

If 68 or 80 pin, 15krpm drives are fun :p but you probably know all this. 😀
