Thanks. The best upgrade on this rig I've ever done is the Noctua NF-R8 fan with a low noise adapter. It is a HUGE difference from the small coolermaster stock fan which could be heard whirring from different parts of the house! I treied different fans, Akasa, coolermaster and xilence (from which I got the 80mm heatsink from) and decided to go ahead with a noctua. Before this I had even oiled and WD-40'd them but small fans are annoying loud. The loudest things now in my system are the hard drives, even then I selected the quietest from my IDE spares. The Samsung is really quiet but the Seagate hums periodically but still realtively quiet.
I have a Gigabyte Radeon 9600xt Ultra, which I took out and replaced with the Geforce MX420 because it's passive.

7CeNu5x.jpg

Specs:
550 MHz Athlon Classic, Slot A
512 MB SDRAM (PC100 i think)
ATI Rage 128 Pro 16 MB AGP (not shown in pic)
10/100 Ethernet PCI card (not shown)
Creative Vibra 128 (not shown)
Western Digital 40 GB hard drive
Ultra Speed CD/DVD drive
AOpen AK72 motherboard
Windows 98 SE

Games:
Unreal Tournament (#1)
Unreal

Quake 1/2/3
Re-Volt
Nerf Arena Blast
Deus Ex
Doom 1/2

This machine runs Windows 9x and DOS games very well, the Vibra 128 handles SoundBlaster and Soundscape emulation well, and has the 8 MB Ensoniq waveset.

Sorry about the colossal picture.

There is a Diamond Monstersound MX 300 on the way to go into this retro game pc. Also I'm looking for a nice 3dfx card.

My Retro DOS machine with perfect retro setup:

It's not looking good due yellowish keyboard. And Viewsonic E70f monitor actually broken and it should be repaired.

My retro rigs:
Apple //c with original matching 9" "Monitor //c" and matching external //c-specific 5.25" drive (Used for REALLY old Apple games plus as a serial terminal for my server.)
Apple IIGS with RAM upgrade, plus AppleColor RGB Monitor, two 5.25" and two 3.5" drives. I really need to get a CompactFlash card, SCSI card, and an Ethernet card for it. Used for playing most Apple games.
PCjr with RAM expansion, jrIDE card (with Compact Flash adapter,) non-"chicklet" keyboard, and original IBM joysticks. Have IBM-branded Kings Quest to go with it (plus other games, obviously.)
Generic "small form factor" 486 DX4/100 with 32 MB RAM, 2 GB hard drive, Ethernet, Tseng ET4000w32p graphics, SB16 sound card.

Edited to show my "workbench" area. Currently housing an Apple-heavy lineup:
Apple Workgroup Server 7350 (Same hardware as a Power Macintosh 7600, only with AppleShare IP 5 pre-loaded on Mac OS 7.6.1.)
Centris 650 (the very short-lived name for the "mid-range" 68040 system, it was renamed Quadra 650 mere months late - this one is running A/UX 3.01.)
PCjr, mentioned above.
Power Mac G4 Cube (aka: Mac Pro cylinder version 0.5, running Mac OS X Public Beta.)
Apple IIGS.

I notice the mobo backplate is missing, know the feeling.
I've got a box full of old backplates, maybe 30 or so and when a board comes in I always say to myself 'bound to have one that fits'.
Never quite works out as I would wish though.....

The missing backplate on that machine is a standard ATX layout that usually came with new cases. It should be easy to source a replacement.
