Hi all, I'm new here.
I put this together ages ago. Used to be a Compace Rally 486DX and so the only original parts are the case, PSU and CDRom which I've had from new.
Celeron 300
Mobo BX????
256MB PC100
10Gb HDD
Floppy 3 1/2
Toshiba CDrom
Techworks Power3D2 4MB in SLI
Ati Rage pro 8MB
ISA PCMCIA adapter card
ISA Crystal 4236 sound card
Win 98SE SP1
28052013605_zps0d6bd3e2.jpg

28052013604_zps292b438f.jpg

Needs a bit of tidying up.
Cheers.

Welcome.

Those SLI cards aren't 4MB. They are 8 or 12 each. The celeron is a bit weak for dual Voodoo2. You might want to step up a bit.

You're probably right about the SLI memory. When I check with display properties/3dfx/system info it says total texture memory 8mb.
Would that be referring to each card?
Cheers

And it says 8MB for frame buffer memory, right? So 16MB total. You have 2 x 8MB Voodoo2 (each 8MB voodoo2 has 4MB frame buffer + 4MB texture).

3DFX information is given pr. card basis. He has the 12MB versions. If you have SLI it only says SLI DETECTED. Frame buffer + texture memory information are based on one card.

Yes, actually writing this from the computer in my signature (took a break from playing Dark Forces and tabbed out to check Vogons quickly 😀 ) and I checked 3DFX options before posting.

Are you using Creative drivers?

It says:
SLI detected!
Frame buffer mem 4Mb
Texture mapping unit (s) 2
Total texture mem 8Mb

Although in Everest DX/DX video/available local video memory it says 16384 Kb (not primary video display driver)

That is the same as my setup says. Gratz with 2x12MB Voodoo 2 in SLI 😀

Yes I am, but as I recall the 3DFX hardware information tab does not differ from the generic drivers.

So they are 12MB beasts. Great!
I actually remember the day I bought the second one. In those days it was a significant sum of money.
I'll double check the mobo/cpu tomorrow.
Tbh, it's been quite a while since I fiddled around with the system as I spend most of my time fixing other people's PC's for a living.
Games that I've got running on it:
Quake 2
Motorhead
Half Life
TR2
....but TR1 will run but not in 3DFX mode.
Used the 3DFX patch and put glide2xx.ovl in the Tombraid dir, but the game appears to be running in software mode.
Another job for tomorrow.

You need to use the Voodoo Rush patch for Tomb Raider. The 3DFX Voodoo Graphics patch also work, but then you need environments variables to be loaded either into autoexec.bat or a batch file. Some more info in my DOS Voodoo 2 compatibility chart.

If you have a Celeron 300A you can most probably use the 100MHz FSB and have the CPU running at 450MHz. The Celeron 300A running at 450MHz is a very popular overclock (and quite straightforward too) and it usually works. AFAIK the Celeron will be faster than a Pentium II at the same frequency, since despite it having less cache, it is running at the same frequency as the CPU. Nice 😀

Will check that FN2, thanks.
I wish I'd kept the boxes.
I've had these cards rumbling about in boxes from one house/country to another.
They don't make em like they used to.
Have to be these then:

The mobo appears to be a PC Chips M729 (PC100 BXCel). I've seen hundreds of PC Chips boards down here, mainly 478's and the failure rate has not been impressive. Maybe the earlier ones were higher quality.
The Voodoo Rush 3dfx patch did the trick thanks and now I'm shooting bats quite happily.
I can't tell if it's a Cel 300A. CPUID shows it's a Covington.

That is unfortunately not the 300A. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Ce … 22_.28250_nm.29

You must be joking, mate. I had a 729 which died a horrible, smoking, smelly death. Then a 726, whose only difference from 729 is the length (this one is shorter). I had some troubles with it; well, with its onboard sound the infamous CMI 8330 re-marked as SoundPro1869+.
I was glad when I got rid of that board sometime later.

Y2K box: AMD Athlon K75 (second generation slot A)@700, ASUS K7M motherboard, 256 MB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 7500+2xVoodoo2 in SLI, SB Live! 5.1, VIA USB 2.0 PCI card, 40 GB Seagate HDD.
WIP: external midi module based on NEC wavetable (Yamaha clone)

Yes, that's the same information shown in my Pentium II too. I'm having 2 X Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2 12MB cards.
