What happened to the hard drive that had Windows 2000 installed on it with your old lost key?

Erased and installed XP.It was a 10gb Seagate.

OK. After you get it installed, if you want to install patches, I recommend the unofficial Update Rollup 2. I use it on top of Microsoft's official Service Pack 4 & Update Rollup 1. I have had no problems with Update Rollup 2.

Maybe try installing Linux. Crunchbang http://crunchbang.org/ is a great distro for older machines.

Changed the motherboard,CPU and RAM completely,due to a cap that broke off the IBM motherboard.
Specs:
Motherboard:Intel D845GLAD
CPU:Pentium 4 1.7GHZ
RAM:256MB DDR400,even though it's recognized as DDR266
DVD-ROM and HDD:Samsung SP1603N
OS:Windows XP SP3,but I think of going with Tiny7 because it's 7 and it's so light that I think it even works on this PC

Fansink:Intel stock

Yes,I know that the second lever from the fansink is broken,but the PC still works fine.Also,did a cable management since it's pretty easy with this case.The CPU retention bracket is yellow because I reused it from a dead Gigabyte motherboard.(also Pentium 4)

If your goal still is to play puzzle games from 10 years ago, then use Windows 2000 or XP. Windows Vista, 7 and 8 are likely to give you compatibility problems.

Nah,changed my goal with the video card on this board being 64MBS to playing 90's to 2000-2003 3D games.

The Intel onboard graphics found on most Pentium 4 boards will do fine for most games made up until 2001, though I do remember having some issues with Incoming, which is a 1998 title, along with pretty much any game that made use of hardware transform and lighting. For better performance in games made up until 2003, I'd suggest going for a Radeon 9000 series card. A Geforce 5 FX series card will do a pinch too, as they seem to be as common as dirt around here, though keep in mind that they have problems with drivers and heat dissipation. Not to mention, even though they are technically DX9 capable, they absolutely CHOKE on DX9 games. Heck, a Radeon 9000 performs better in DX9 games, and it's only a DX8 card.

1.Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (2003)
2.Star Wars Episode 1:Racer (1997)
3.Tank Racer (2000?)
4.Ford Racing 2(2002)
Ford Racing 2 works even on 32MB cards flawlessly(I.E Radeon 7000 AGP),and I hope it will work with Intel GMAs too.

Be sure to download the Windows 2000/XP compatibility patch for Star Wars Episode I: Racer before it disappears into the Disney Vault.

WOW! sideways hdd rack in a p4 era machine. i have a custom build with heat sink form a netvista, look at your pic too bad i didn't have a net vista case too. you could try 98Se with unoffcial service pack and kernel ex. you cna run new enough software to run stuff like you tube and old enough to run dos games. games from 2001-2002 would be made to run on 98 any ways plus it would fly on a p4 system with 256mb ram vs xp which would eat all fo the ram, assuming you don't upgrade it. just an idea.

planning on playing any other games? maybe NFS III or re volt?

Uh....my case isn't a NetVista.It's a Delux MT375.
Also,the XP this P4 runs is XP Lite SP3.So basically a small XP on a such big HDD is pretty good.And no,it doesn't eat all my ram 😁

Your Intel GMA would work fine for everything on that list, except for NFS Hot Pursuit 2. For that, I would probably recommend a dedicated GPU of some sort.

I have NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on my Sempron box which also has 64 MB video and it runs fine,so why shouldn't it run on a Intel GMA with 64MB?

Intel GMA had no support for hardware T&L up until a few years ago, with one of the Core 2 chipsets. 😜 It's a basic feature that most graphics cards have had since the original Geforce. It will probably run, but don't expect good performance.

I looked up the specs of the motherboard that you want to use now. It does not have the Intel GMA; instead, it has the Intel Extreme Graphics, which is a really lousy chip for 3D games. Expect disappointment.

There's much more to GPU performance & compatibility than graphics memory size. I learned this the hard way in the 90's. I saw Need For Speed 2 SE on my friend's computer with a 16-megabyte Voodoo3 2000 and I thought, "Wow, that 16-megabyte card is amazing! I wish I could afford it!" Then, I saw an 8-megabyte Permedia 2 for sale at Staples for about $60, which I could afford, so I bought it, assuming that it would be half as good as the Voodoo3 and 8 times better than the 1-megabyte ET4000/W32p that I had. In reality, the Permedia 2 made my 3D games only marginally faster than the ET4000/W32p, and it gave me new compatibility problems with old DOS games.
