What is the longest duration you've run MemTest on this computer?

I have one particular Via Apollo Pro Tualatin setup whereby the slightest increase in memory speed would cause memory errors in MemTest, but only with a 22-35 hour duration. The errors usually occurred when the memory quantity was maxed out.

Plan your life wisely, you'll be dead before you know it.

0 hours 0 minuts and 0 seconds 😀

I did run Prime95 blend for 5 hours at 153 MHz [2, 2, 2, 7] without errors though.
I have often been able to run memtest without errors even on systems so unstable that they cant even boot Windows.
If a system can run Prime95 for hours then in my experience there wont be any problems with the CPU or memory while gaming.
Memory errors that dont materialize until the computer has been running MemTest for 24 hours are not issues that would stop me from running at that speed if otherwise stable.
If I would use the system for more important stuff than gaming that would be a totally different matter.

Perhaps the Intel 815 chipset is better than Via Apollo Pro when it comes to handeling fast memory,
I have heard of others running Infineon PC-133 CL2 memory up to speeds of around 170 MHz CL2 using Intel chipsets.
There are basicly 3 speed grades of Infineon PC-133 memory chips.
The model of chip on my memory modules is called CT-7 and it is the middle speed grade. The best chips are called DT-7 and I guess they are the ones reaching the highest speed.

Here is a link to a thread where this has been discussed earlier.
SD-RAM PC-150, RARE?
It seems member Vetz reached the same speed with his Infineon modules 😀.

Is there a consensus on what versions of DirectX work best with with Windows 95, and 98?

don't know about a consensus , but I found that DX9 has issues with my Geforce2Ti , the games run a fair bit slower and some display various other issues, I stick to DX8.1, works fine with the Voodoo3 too.

maybe that doesn't happen with later cards like the FX5900 or the 6 series but imo those are probably better with Win2000/XP anyways, a 1400 Tualatin will be a bit anemic for some of the later games like Doom 3 , though I remember playing Doom3 at a decent resolution and detail level on my Athlon XP 1800+ and GeforceFX/6 (can't remember exactly which card I had , it may have been a 5800) , and it ran fine.

of course it obviously depends on what hardware you have in that PC ,if you're only using a Voodoo3 or weaker, DX6 or 7 would be all you need

There was a driver thread a few weeks ago 😀.
For Nvidia cards in Windows 98 I use to get the best performance with 43.45 or 45.23.
DX8.1 is the Direct X version I use to install on any system with a Geforce or newer.
