Hi everyone,

1st post here on the forum, only found my way here by chance, very glad I did! Like many of you I have a penchant for saving and using old PC's, can't stand to see them destroyed when they have much useful life left to give. Over the past year I have salvaged 7 machines from scrap, all are now working perfectly and currently crunching SETI when i'm not using them for other things. Or have been passed onto friends to use.
One of my favourites is this Athlon XP 3000+ system, found outside next to the bins in the block of flats where I live.

Onto the specs!

Athlon XP 3000+ Barton.
MSI nForce 2 400 ultra motherboard.
A-bit Siluro Geforce 4 Ti 4600.
1.25 Gb DDR 400 Ram.
Pci wireless network card.
80 GB Maxtor PATA HD.
3.5" Floppy drive, under front panel.
Generic 52X silver CD writer.
Akasa 80mm Multi coloured LED Fan.

the fan on the video card had packed up and the HD was missing other than being full of dust and filthy all was good. I cleaned it all out, rebuilt, replaced the fan on GFX card and added a old drive i had hanging about, she has been runnig now since last July perfectly 😀

hope you folks like the old girl, would have been a top end piece of gaming kit 11 years ago or so!
I will document some of my other "Dinosaurs" when I get a little more time.
Best Regards,
Chris

Thanks for the comment 😀 Wasteful lot they are in my building, the monitor in the pics also came from the same place, working fine it was too. Recently also rescued a Evesham Micro's P4 rig from the same spot, 3.2 gig Prescott, Asus p4r800-vm board(ati igp chipset), DVD drive and 512mb's of DDR400, had a dead HD inside, quick drive swap and now also working fine.

The Athlon makes a pretty nice gaming rig for 2003 ish games, have played a good bit of Need for Speed Underground 2, FarCry, Aquanox 2, X2 the threat so far on the old beast, it takes all that stuff in it's stride.

Best Regards,
Chris

You will be surprised what I have salvaged lately, imagine about 20 old system being left out in the rain for more than a year but it doesn't end there. The rust, dirt, bug, and yes rat crap (only three system had rat crap) yet I still managed to get working parts. Had some lols when I tried a few of the hard drives.
