Hello guys! I posted an ad on craigslist a few days ago to trade my newer barely used laptop for old PC's. This guy responded and he's got a brand new at case, a 386 motherboard, some isa cards and more stuff! I'm gonna build a nice 386 and maybe a 486 if he finds a motherboard with it. He'll be over tomorrow at noon. He also said he got a 486dx2 dell laptop that is complete in working order. Cool! He also says he got a isa ide controller board too, so hopefully ill get that packard bell running again! What are your guyses thoughts on the laptop? Its a dell Latitude LX 4100T, but I can't find much about it on google.

Main: AMD FX 6300 six core 3.5ghz (OC 4ghz)
16gb DDR3, Nvidia Geforce GT740 4gb Gfx card, running Win7 Ultimate x64
Linux: AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 1.5GB DDR, Nvidia Quadro FX1700 running Debian Jessie 8.4.0

Check the screen. Laptops from that era often have really slow panels (I forget the name), useless for gaming.

Fortunately, you will notice right away if it's one of those.

Passive matrix "Dual Scan" color LCD screens were common in the 486 era. They were very muddy (poor contrast) and had serious ghosting problems. Only the highest end laptops had active matrix displays.

TFT displays are active matrix, so it has a decent screen for the time.

The laptop is a 100mhz dx4, that's pretty good. I can't wait to get it today!
