Hi all. Just a few pics of my newest retro project. A 754 rig! This is an emachines t6520 system that I got at the thrift store for $13. It features the following:

MSI 7145 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Venice CPU
2x OCZ DDR500 512MB RAM ( came with two different generic sticks, one was bad)
WD 250gb IDE drive
DVDRW and CD
ATI hd4850 (I know, overkill but the only spare PCI express card I had right now, and I wasn't gonna use onboard)

Wish I had taken pics before I cleaned the case and gave it a spin in the dishwasher. There were enough dust bunnies to knit a sweater, not to mention a lot of residue from a stupid emachines sticker that covered the entire side of the case. I had to work on that for a while with some wd40 and a sponge. Blew it out with my compressor, washed it after removing all the parts which I cleaned individually. Put her back together and she works splendidly, all the extras like the card readers work flawlessly. I've been wanting a 754 rig for a while as that is the only AMD system type I hadn't currently owned from socket 7 through AM3, and also I had one as my main rig from 04-08. Not bad for 13 bucks!

Thanks, Phil. Enjoyed your 754 video!

Yep it is nice-looking RAM. Don't overclock most of my rigs but I might see what I can get out of it. Might even swap it out to one of my my 939 rig as some of those opterons can really go high.

I happen to have very similar DDR-400 RAM stick, also made by OCZ and the same type of heatspreader.

I don't know whether it was due to abusive handling by the previous owner or because of something like heat, but one of the sticks had its heatspeader bent, causing the heatspreader to not touch some of the RAM chips. And the bent heatspreader will also block airflow. It will obviously depend on the individual memory modules whether this could be a problem or not, but it's something to watch out for as it can be easily missed and is very easy to spot if you are aware of this 😀.
