I enjoy derping around with old hardware but I try to keep a small footprint. That means a micro ATX and a small tower. I also want some decent performance under the hood which limits my options of boards with ISA slots.

My current board has two ISA slots, an AGP 1.5V slot, and two PCI slots (one shared with an ISA). There is no SB-Link header on the motherboard.

I have an Roland SCC-1 on the bottom for both SC-55 and intelligent midi for the old MT-32, SC-88, and other synths. The second ISA has a Sound Blaster 16 CT1740 with the v4.05 DSP and is paired with an NEC XR385 (DB60XG) daughter board. For video I have a Matrox G400. I opted for the Matrox as the Voodoo 3 requires a 5V AGP slot and I didn't think that a Voodoo 4 would be worth the trouble.

The processor is a 1Ghz Coppermine Celeron in a slocket. The motherboard supports only 66/100mhz bus and this is as high as the multipliers go. Tualatin is not supported.

So, this leaves me with a single PCI slot free which I can use either for a network card for multiplayer or another sound card for A3D, clearer audio, etc.

One thing that I've been considering is connecting a PCI extension cable to the inaccessible PCI slot and mount the network card inside somewhere, drill a hole in the case, and mount port there.

I do see being able to improve the setup by replacing the SCC-1 with a LAPC-I and using a SCB-55 daughter board on a PCI sound card. But the LAPC-I is rare and expensive and the daughter boards are rarer still.

Thoughts?

SCB-55s are very common. Especially where Charlie Lab was sold.
