For me it was my first custom build computer from 1993.

Case - Beige mini tower AT case.
Intel 486dx-33 upgraded to Intel-486dx2-50
ISA motherboard which I later upgraded to a VLB motherboard
4mb of ram upgrade to 8mb ram
128kb of cache later upgraded to 256kb cache
Oaktec ISA VGA later upgraded to Trident and Cirrus Logic 2mb VLB Graphics cards.
ISA controller later upgraded to VLB controller
Sony 2x CDROM which I later upgraded to a Mitsumi 4x CDROM
Sound Blaster or compatible sound card.
DOS 6.0 / Win3.1 / Wildcat client dial up internet.
14.4 modem later upgraded to 28.8 modem and 33.3 modem.

14” SVGA Non-interlaced monitor
Laser printer.

Total costs after upgrades about $3500 before 1995

I don’t have a photo of the case but it looked just like this one.
My 486 DX2 Build
These cases seem to have been popular back in 1993 because they where small, compact and inexpensive.

Well that makes it easy for me since you posted my own photo of my 486 machine. 🤣. But yeah, it is definitely my favourite case for a 386/486 build.

Actually, These cases with shinny metal where made of thicker gauge sheet metal.
This is more like what my original case sheet metal was like.
It did not have sharp edges but was also hard to work with.

I dubbed this machine the "Frankenstein 386" ... i had a bunch of spares so I tossed them all into this old XT clone chassis and set it up at work. Recently upgraded with a 386DX-40, ET4000, and an AWE32. Also had these lovely mint black Teac 1.2/1.44 drives that didn't match anything else i had. RasterOps 17" CRT, and a Dell bigfoot AT101 with alps switches (IIRC) .. CF IDE so it's a simple matter of taking the CF card home with me to transfer files to/from.

Nice! What's that little hole at the bottom-front of the case for?

In the olden days some systems allowed you to fit the keyboard in the front of the computer,

My '89 386DX33 box. Has 8megs of ram. note the sliding drive cover. The outfit that put it together is still in bussiness. I fitted the CD Drive and replaced the dead scsi hdd.
