I finally got myself a Compaq Portable 1 that has the following specifications:

NEC D8088D CPU
2x Magnetic Peripherals Inc floppy drives (360KB double-sided, double density)
Green Phosphorus CRT monitor (low refresh rate, hence the ghosting, but it's cool looking)
Compaq OEM Floppy Controller
Compaq OEM CGA card
Quantum+ HardCard 20
Western Digital WD8003E BNC/AUI-15 NIC
DFI MF-100 RAM expansion RTC Serial card

The following has been done since Feb 26th:
1) removed 3 of the 5 cards and reseated the FDD card and CGA card to test the system to see if it boots or not (spoiler: it does boot)
2) fixed the HardCard 20 and it boots
3) repaired the floppy drives by using machine oil and lithium grease in the spindle motors on the bottom and the grease on the rails and it's able to boot off of a diskette
4) replaced the nasty keyboard foam and foil capacitive pads and the keyboard works
5) removed the corrosion off of the DFI MF-100 card
6) installed the XT-CF card and 64MB CF card (installed DOS 6.22 from within VirtualBox using my main laptop)
7) installed the Creative Labs Sound Blaster 2.0 CT1350B + CMS upgrade card
8) swapped the second 360KB drive with a 1.44MB floppy drive (works as a 720KB due to the BIOS limit)
9) installed the AST SixPakPlus RAM RTC Serial card after replacing Bank 1 (all 9 sockets - Bits 0-7, Parity) with new RAM chips and setting SW2 on the motherboard to the correct memory count of 640KB

Items that need repairs or replacing:
The expansion card plastic sliders need replacing for the cards

Future plans:
1) installing the 2.5"/3.5" - 5.25" HDD/SSD bay adapter by the 1.44MB floppy drive (used as a 720KB since the BIOS limit)
2) possibly make a better keyboard foam contact pads replacement that'll last a very long time and the contact pad can be swapped without having to take the entire thing off or convert it to a buckling spring keyboard.

Good job. I've seen a couple of these come across on the local buy/sell listings but I've held off because of the amount of labor required to get them back into top shape.

Had to replace the foam and foil capacitive pads for the F and X keys since they took several presses to get recognized, especially when typing commands or directory names.

But, in the end, all of them work.
