In this topic I will post my Socket 754 retro systems, only the 2023 updates of them, especially new builds.
ASUS K8V-X Build:
-AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 1.8 GHz (ClawHammer core) with AMD Stock Cooler
-ASUS K8V-X motherboard
-DeLUX M99 ATX PC case
-1GB (2x512MB) DDR400 (PC3200) GeIL Value RAM
-ASUS A9600PRO ATI Radeon 9600 PRO 128MB video card
-Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB SATA150 HDD (model WD1600JD-00GBB0, that is all black in colour)
-ASUS DRW-1608P (OEM Pioneer DVR-109) 16x DVD writer (connected on IDE Secondary Master)
-ALPS 3.5" 1.44MB floppy drive
-4o0W Powerlink LPK2-30 PSU
-I plan to install on this build Windows XP Professional for retro purposes.

Any opinions? When I will build more retro Socket 754 rigs I will show them.

It's close to what I had back then.
My system was a bit newer (s939 based) but really similar.

- MSI K8n-neo2 platinum
- A64 3000+
- Radeon 9600 XT

I later upgraded the system with better ram, overclocked the CPU and swapped the Radeon with a GeForce 7600 GS AGP. I used this system up to the university around 2009 because I had no money to buy something newer 😄

Good system for HL2, Morrowind, Far cry... I even played 1000+h of Oblivion with it... in sub 20fps potato mode

"Hello, my friend. Stay awhile and listen..."
My collection (not up to date)

s754/AGP is one of my favourite platforms 😀. IMHO, best combinations for stability and performance are:
* VIA K8T800 + GeForce 6800
* nForce3 250 + ATI (R300 or R400)

Nice! Also one of my favourite platforms are this one (Socket 754 with AGP), and also today I built another Socket 754/AGP rig. The rig I built today is:
ASUS K8U-X Build:
-AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2 GHz (ClawHammer core)
-ASUS K8U-X motherboard
-Mercedes-like ATX PC case (maybe made by Linkworld/Powerlink) (I know that the case have the cracked face
-1GB (2x512MB) DDR400 (PC3200) Kingmax Super RAM
-Forsa NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256MB 128bit video card
-Samsung SP2004C SpinPoint P120 200GB SATA HDD
-ASUS DRW-1608P3S (OEM Pioneer DVR-111) 16x X Multi DVD writer (connected on IDE Secondary Master)
-NEC 3.5" 1.44MB floppy drive
-Sycron USB2.0 internal card reader with front USB 2.0 port
-4o0W LPE2 PSU
-I plan to install on this build Windows XP Professional and Mandriva Linux 2006 dual-boot for retro purposes.

Any opinions about this build?

PS: Also, I have more unassembled Socket 754 with AGP motherboards, those are:
ASUS K8N with AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.6 GHz (256KB L2) rev. E6 (64bit with SSE3 instructions) (Palermo core) (NVIDIA nForce 3 250 chipset)
ASUS K8N-E with AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8GHz (128KB L2) rev. E6 (64bit with SSE3 instructions) (Palermo core) (NVIDIA nForce 3 250Gb chipset)
ASUS K8V-MX with AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2 GHz (Venice core) (VIA K8M800 chipset)
another ASUS K8U-X with AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.6GHz (128KB L2) rev. D (no 64bit and no SSE3 instructions) (Palermo core) (ULi M1689 chipset) (that one, not the rig I built, I will use it as a test bench maybe)
