Sadly my Gateway Jabil Kadoka motherboard died recently. I was having trouble finding a replacement for a reasonable price, so I sprung for the FIC/Compaq ASPEN2/ASPEN3. Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon 900MHz 512KB Orion
AMD 751 / VIA 686A chipset
256MB Micron PC100 2-2-2
IBM Deskstar 40GB 7200rpm ATA100
3Dfx Voodoo3 3000 AGP
Sound Blaster Live! CT4830
DEC 21140-based 10/100 NIC
NEC USB 2.0 PCI card
Windows ME

Super Bypass Enabled

Nice! PCI USB 2.0 cards in Win98 are performance killers though.

The only reason I'm using it is because this machine won't get past the bios with my USB KVM plugged in. I got tired of unplugging it so it would boot.

I wonder if same happens with bios usb keyboard emulation disabled. But yeah that’s very irritating indeed. To avoid those troubles I’m using a hybrid usb-ps/2 KVM.

How does that work? So you have a USB keyboard and mouse and it converts that to PS/2? Or is the other way around?

Both things exist, I have the latter (Belkin), 2 clients use PS/2 and the other 2 over USB.

I just installed the NEC USB 2.0 card. 3dMark2000 score without the card was 3209. With the card installed and my KVM connected: 3208. So virtually no difference 🤷‍♂️

I'm happy about that 😎

Very nice, clean board with less capacitors to replace!

I was just kidding. It's a voodoo3 3000 overclocked slightly.

Do like a Slot A system, they aren't all that common.

All the parts are more or less period correct, many of us had Netgear NIC's back then.

900Mhz, V3, SBLive. Should be just fine for 9x gaming

Yep! I love having something a little different. I kept most of the parts from back then. It's got enough performance to play any Win9x games very smoothly. I have a blast with this machine.
