--retard alert--

But what *is* MT-32? I've seen this name in a lot of cases, but I don't actually know what it is. Also the official 'MT-32 Emulation Project' page does not explain what it is. And I couldn't really find the answer anywhere on my own.

So please, enlighten me.

*chuckles* yes a very popular soundcard back in the day. In competition with Gravis Ultrasound and Soundblaster Pro.

it was in it's final days... Sierra stuck to the MT-32 for years after it was "widely used"...

The 'MT-32' was a sound module, not a card. Thanks (in part) to Ken Williams a sound card version of the MT-32 (the LAPC-I) was created.

LAPC-I is a sound card version of CM-32L, not MT-32

It's still roughly the 'MT-32 on a card'. That is accepted fact. (Besides, the LAPC-1 has NO CM GM tones apart from a few SFX!)

And it certainly doesn't change the fact that the MT-32 is not a sound card..

1. CM-32L has no GM.
2. LAPC-I has all CM-32L's sfx cause it is a complete CM-32L on a card as I said.

Ah! I'm confusing CM-32L with CM-32P as I always do. Thanks 😀

I don't think so.
CM-32P has completely nothing in common with MT-32 or LAPC-I or GM 😀

The CM-32P had General MIDI tones, didn't it?

No the CM-32P doesn't have a GM sounds list. It already uses PCM architercture. (no LA-synthesis as the MT-32 ect.)
It consists of only 64 sound patches. But they are great, much much better than the ones of an SC-55.

Like I said, "General MIDI tones". Not a GM complete list. But it had *some*.
