Theortically, supposing I was able to get the MT-32 and CM-32L LA-Patch ROMs and Control ROMs. What would it entail to get those to work within DosBox and/or ScummVM?
Munt got absorbed by the ScummVM orject. I was wondering if I could use a virtual synth driver, like BASS, Fluid Synth, or SGM instead of Microsoft GS wavetable eey
ScummVM has added Munt into their project, but Munt is still an active stand alone project. Often, the Munt in ScummVM is outdated as Munt's development continues. The ROMs will do nothing for other synths, they are for Roland music only. If you want MT-32 music in DOSBox, you need a special build of DOSBox with Munt incorporated into it, the Munt QT app or, on Windows, the Munt driver. All of these solutions, including ScummVM, require the ROMs.

What about CM-32L music? There are a few old Lucasrts and Sierra Online games that use that one (since the SCI0 days, anyway)
You need to join them together. One byte from ic27, then one byte from ic 26, then one byte from ic27, then... 😀
Yup. They need to be interleaved. I did that, and one of the control ROMs is weird. The 1.04, 1.05, 1.06, 1.07, and BlueRidge ROMs are already known to Munt. There's a new one (b__m-9.27c256.ic26.bin + a__m-9.27c256.ic27.bin) that is not. After interleaving it, it has these strings in it:
1Copyright (C) 1988 Real World Interfaces Australia 03-459-2889 2 3Woe betide he who rips off my ideas!!! - Robin Whittle
What the heck is that about 😕
Munt doesn't recognize it.
Update
The only things I was able to find out about "Real World Interfaces Australia" and "Robin Whittle" is something that seems to be a PCB design thingy for a memory board called "TX16W":
There's a scanned copy of the documentation for the RWI mod here; I think it's a firmware and hardware hack to fix the sound quality and add a pre-reverb output and battery backup. My MT-32 had this done sometime before I owned it (and this reminds me that I should check the battery...)
I'm after the Roland CM.-64 ROMS. I have the original hardware but would love to try the ROMS on Boxer for MacOs. Have only ever seen the MT-32 and CM32 on my travels.
Thanks,
Rob
