Yeah it's not a feature yet, mine was a feature idea.

Just have the audio cable to make up now - my second SB16 doesn't have an easy to use MPC-2 cd input, only one of those tiny JST style connectors, so I'll have to find a cable in my collection somewhere. MIDI is again handled by an M-Audio UNO which is zip tied to the rear of the case, connected to the MPU401 ISA card.

Damn. Just got everything connected up and it seems like the M-Audio Uno model I've gotten my hands on this time is one of those "that may be unreliable for use as a receiver with MT32-pi" as listed in the wiki:

Every time a game starts I get a "Unexp. MIDI Status!" error message, no game text displayed on the MT-32 emulated display and all of the instruments are wrong and/or stuck. My other Uno works flawlessly 🙁

I seems I'll need to get my hands on a Roland UM One mk2 or other reliable USB interface.

That's a nice clean design, I do recommend that you consider adding buttons though. Otherwise you can't switch from MT-32 to soundfont mode, unless maybe you use MT32-pi-control software.

Here's what I've been working on for a few weeks now - my MT32-pi case which is designed to look like a shrunken regular MT32, but with the bigger 20x2 LCD.

IMG_0285.jpg

IT's been designed in Fusion 360, but the DAC and MIDI input PCB are currently just on some PCB stripboard that I knocked together. Digitising the physical objects is time consuming work, especially when a print of the top and bottom parts takes 6 hours each. The DAC's audio jack doesn't fit right for instance, but it's close enough to work.

The Pi3 is screwed in there to be an MT-32PI forever, but on the underside I can get to the micro SD card to swap it out, and the MicroSD card can't fall into the case (very annoying when that happens).

IMG_0299-2.jpg

The front wouldn't look right with the 3d printing layer lines, and my attempts to print text with the 3d printer didn't work out, so I used my Brother QL700 label printer to print out the matte paper label, and the glossy plastic label. The end result looks pretty fantastic to me, but I'd love it if there was a better way to print the matte front part. I Was thinking maybe a PCB with no traces on it, in a black matte finish. That would be cheap-ish and the silkscreen would work perfectly for the button labels.

Something I'd like to look at next is making a PCB that doesn't sit on top of the CPU so it can cool better, there's room in the case for that. But this one works and I can use it now 😀

Planning to share? I'd love to buil my own MT32-Pi using your designs.

Yep, I need to make a schematic of my protoboard and get a PCB designed, then I can share it 😀
This heat and some other projects have sapped my attention lately, so thanks for the reminder.

Replacement Roland UM One mk2 arrived today, swapped out the M-Audio dongle, plugged this into the MM401 card and everything works (well, everything that doesn't need an interrupt-driven MPU401 interface - i.e. Gateway/Homeworld doesn't work, but that's a known MM401 issue - my MPU-IPC-T on the DX/DLC machine works with it fine).

That's two embedded MT32-Pi installations complete and working nicely. I've not bothered with the soundfont synthesis side of things yet - anyone got a nice Sound Canvas GS / Yamaha XG sounding soundfont?

Wow, these look very good! The bay version is really useful and makes the PC look more professional, ^
while the secondone has a nice hi-fi look! It would match a vintage amp very well! ^^
