I am trying to modify (correctify...) xCom music. I used the OPL commands option, and the result is usable.

I now need to convert that to midi inorder to manipulate instruments.

I found here (and only here) a proggy called dro2midi, but when I tried it issued an erroe message "This song uses multiple OPL chips - this isn't yet supported!" and quits 🙁

Someone suggested to recompile it, alas this is way above my knowhow. Would someone please lend a hand?

Maybe record it again with sounblaster selected in the soundsetup instead of sbpro or sb16. Some newer Sounblaster have 2 opls, I think.

There is no such option. The options for music board include adlib/sb, roland and 'no music'.

So there shouldn't be multiple opls. Have you tried modifying the sb entry in dosbox.conf? Maybe the game recognizes two opls and uses them for stereo. Also the error description could not apply, who knows.

That's an interesting idea! Problem is I know absolutely nothing about that stuff. Here is the SB section from my dosbox.conf:
sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
mixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplrate=22050

The oplmode parameter accepts "auto,cms,opl2,dualopl2,opl3" Any idea what I should use? Worst case I'll try them one by one... only 4 options available.

Try sb1/opl2.
