Ok, here's the story.

I recorded some video in DOSBox-0.72. I went to run the files, and got the "don't recognize this file" yada yada. Looked at the instructions again, went in the start menu, found the "install ZMBV codec" selection, and click it. I see a few files get copied and moved here and there, and I figure that that's it, simple enough. But it seems that things are never simple when I'm at the helm...

I go to play the file in Windows Media Player, and the file type still is not recognized. Windows Movie Maker doesn't recognize it. Quicktime won't recognize it. DivX won't recognize it. VirtualDub won't recognize it. I try reinstalling the codec; at this point, I've lost count how many attempts I've made. It looks like it gets installed, but all my media players say differently.

Why isn't the codec installing? Is it installing and there's a problem elsewhere? Do I need to restart the computer or something? Am I forgetting something? Any help at all would be appreciated.

I've been looking, and I don't seem to understand how to install ffmpeg. The files I've found, I can't figure out how to use.

Yes, I am running as administrator.

I'm using Windows Media Player 11 (I just updated). Could that be causing any complications? Perhaps WMP isn't looking in the right place for the codec, is it possible that I could manually place the codec where it needs to be?

I'm also running DOSBox 0.72 from my H: Drive (an external, removable hard disc). I installed DOSBox onto this drive, rather than my C: drive to save space. Is it possible that the location I'm installing from could be causing issues?

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate your help. Sorry I took a little while to reply...
