I installed the DOS CD game "Beneath a steel sky" using DOSBox. When I played the game, I noticed that the CD in the CD-ROM drive is constantly spinning. I tried running Nero DriveSpeed (in Windows XP), but it could only reduce the "spin rate" of the CD to 8x times. This meant that I could still hear the CD spinning in the drive. Can DOSBox be used to reduce the "spin rate" to a lower speed, such as 2x or 4x speed, in an attempt to quieten the CD-ROM drive even further?

Alternatively, I understand that a replacement for mscdex exists, called shsucd. It can be found here -

http://www.geocities.com/jadoxa/shsucdx/

This suite of programs contains a utility called shsucdhd, which emulates a CD using an image file.

Would it be possible to use shsucdhd with DOSBox, in order to avoid using a (noisy physical) CD? If this idea is possible, what software do I need to make an image file from a CD?

Thanks a lot for any comments. 😀

you don't need shsucdx. imgmount is what you need.
nero should be able to create isos. just don't create nrg files
