Hi,
Sorry if this is a basic question but i can't find the answer anywhere.

Some of the software we still run at work is DOS based.
So I am having to us DOS Box to running on our desktops (OS= WinXP)

I have mounted server locations that I need to access but, because they are all windows based folders with long file names I get abbreviated folder names.

This is making it difficult to navigate and identify the folders I need to enter.

Is there anyway that I can Label/Rename folders that are mounted without changing their actual source folder names?
Does anyone have any alternative ideas on how I could resolve this problem?

Thank you in advance for your answers and advice,
Bowza

Nope, you need to either make the path simpler or adjust how your mounting the path in DOSBox.

MS-DOS programs don't use LFN anyway so your probably talking about a DOS program that previous ran in Windows XP Command Promp that would rely onthe 8.3 to LFN translation offered by Windows.

DOSBox will only show 8.3 character directory/filenames (but it does support mounting LFN).

Thanks for quick response,

It's a true DOS based program.
I know that DOS doesn't support LFN and max is 8.3, which is why I wondered about a label function.

The files I access and produce are restricted to this (8.3) but the way the sever trees have been structured is with LFN due to it all commonly being accessed via XP.

Is there anyway I can label directories or even mounted drives?
Any alternate ideas?

Use more drive letters?

mount S "xxxxxxxxxx\server"
mount M "xxxxxxxxxx\server\Monthly Reports"
mount R "xxxxxxxxxxx\server\Regional Data Input"
