I downloaded DOSBox about a week ago to play The Elder Scrolls: Arena and Daggerfall, and haven't had any luck yet. The command to mount my C:/ drive should be:
z:\mount c c:\DOSBoxGames\
But it didn't work like that... I got:
z:\mount c c:]DOSBoxGames]
So I tried opening the Keymapper with CtrlF1 and chaning the BIND:Key, which caused the new:
z:\mount c c:[]DOSBoxGames[]

The thing is: the keyboard pictured in the keymapper is not my keyboard layout. I am using the standard QWERTY keyboard, while the one in the mapper looks like this:

I think this is the problem, but I can't find out how to fix it. Every time I try to change the BIND:KEY from ] to \ like it should be, I always just get another ], even when hitting the \ key. This happens when I try to change the BIND for other keys as well. And it only happens in DOSBox.

Any ideas on what I can do here? Daggerfall has been burning a hole in my hard drive for two weeks now. I need to play!
Thanks!

Do it with a .conf file.

How would I do that? I have the .conf file, but Windows keeps throwing a "Cannot Open File" message at me. Also, where in the file can I change the key settings?

I think the idea about using the conf file is to put the MOUNT command in the [autoexec] section instead of trying to type it at DOSBox's prompt, not to change keys.

As for the key issue, you might find a solution here:

I was able to auto-mount the C:/ drive through the Options file, but now I'm trying to figure out how to play the game. Every time I try to use the "dir" command to open the contents of the DosBoxGames folder, I just get booted back to the Z:\ drive...

Yes. But every time I type the: "z:\>C:" command, I get an Illegal Command Message.

Are you by any chance mistaking | for : ? Maybe post a screenshot of your attempts.

I've tried using C: as well as c:, with no luck.

Oh, I see what's going on. The keymapper is seeing : as ; even when I hit shift. Let me see if I can actually change the bind key for this one.

EDIT: Can't change the bid... same deal as with the \ key. I added the C: command to the Options file, which auto-switched to the C:\ drive when I opened DOSBox/ Let's see if I can get to the game now! 😁

Got it! Finally! Now I'm having sound problems, but I've seen a few guides on that. The screen is also a bit blurry. So I gotta work on that too. At least I'm getting there!

I got sound! The picture is still a bit blurry, though.
There is an a.exe and an ARENA.exe file. You have to run ARENA in DOSBox to get sound.
