I mounted my entire c drive in dosbox the first time i ran Arena before learning to never do this because it could harm your real system. I get a bit paranoid about this kind of stuff. I would like to know if it really does put your system at risk and if so, how?

Here is an example of what i typed the first time i ran Arena:

mount c c:/
c:
cd arena
arena

I hope this didn't damage my system in any way, large or small...

More or less you submit your system to be preyed upon by all the DOS era viruses and similar malware, as well as possibly funking up Windows content that is no longer compatible with DOSBox (i.e. running DOS disk tools against a mounted drive or etc.). More that likely you haven't caused any harm by your actions, but it's far safer to only allow DOSBox access to the folders necessary (i.e. DOS game content only).

If you were to to use the DEL command you wouldn't want it targeted there.
Similarly if you were to install Windows 3.1 you wouldn't want it to overwrite your modern Windows.

If you do not launch DOSBox with Administrator permissions then you should be fine. (Still wouldn't protect you from losing your data but it would protect your OS files)

I do appreciate that the warning is given, but one is not stopped from mounting the full drive.
