just use the one that works the fastest on your system

🤣 thanks, though i think sometimes i need to use the one that works slowest for some games
I guess i as just wondering if the opengl /ddraw setting mainly will be for 3dfx acceleration and for what games does that work - i recall carmageddon has some kind of 3d fx setting but are there any other known games

actually perhaps i might just look through old cgw issues and see

Output=surface isn't supporting stretching at all.
Output=overlay isn't supporting stretching in 16-bit and 32-bit videomodes.
So - ddraw is default for me, because ATi have screwed OGL support for all agp videocards.
For NVidia users output=openglnb can be the best choice.

The only annoying glitch in output=ddraw for me is - crashes with fulldouble=true in several games (One Must Fall 2097 as the example).

thank you greatly - this is something i didnt know - for most of my old games from before 1995 though would they benefit from the opengl in terms of quality when in fullscreen? say for Falcon Gold, Task Force 1942 or 1942 Pacific Air War, or Longbow Gold - for all this i just run them in overlay i recall, but if it could help the resolution so that fullscreen doesnt just look like a zoomed in version of the windowed screen that would be great!

I think you may be confused. DOSBox has NO support for programs that use DirectDraw or OpenGL. The "output" setting in dosbox.conf relates exclusively to how DOSBox draws the DOSBox window and has no effect on whatever program you are trying to run within DOSBox. DOSBox itself might run faster or slower (or support stretching or not) depending on how your video card is configured.

Oh sorry, i was confused i was thinking this was a setting that depended on the program being run. Okay cool, this sheds much light on this matter for
thank you
