I use DosBOX with Norton Commander. In the 90s I had a 4:3 aspect ratio monitor. When I switch DosBOX to full screen I always get NC stretched on the whole screen, which has 16:10 aspect ratio. I tried various options and I can't make DosBOX render NC using 4:3 aspect ratio.

It would be nice to be able to have 4:3 aspect ratio while in DOS mode, both in a window as well as in full-screen. The aspect ratio works correctly in VGA games I tried.

Try aspect=true, machine=vgaonly and also see
4:3 Aspect ratio

Vanilla DOSBox uses aspect=true for graphic modes only. VGA text modes (80x25) not change the aspect and use 8x16 matrix for characters (not 9x16) so the result is the 640x400 area in the 640x480 window.
"Machine"="vgaonly" uses the correct 9x16 character size but still ignores the aspect. At least for me. The result is worse, 720x400 area in the 720x480 window.

Use SVN to get the proper aspect for text modes.
