this is the way to install d-tool 3.47 or vcd 5440 on win95 without fully install ie4.0 or 5.5 .

002, "Microsoft MCI CD Audio"(control panel--add new hardware--no--sound,video--Microsoft MCI--CD audio device(need win95cd)--reboot
003,install usb supplement(Usbsupp--reboot)(need SCANDSKW.EXE to /WINDOWS).
*****usbsupp from osr2.5cd,must be used according to your system language*****
004,copy to /WINDOWS/SYSTEM

I can confirm that the OP's steps to get both Daemon Tools 3.47 and Virtual Clone Drive 4.5.4.0 working on Windows 95 without IE 4.0 are successful.

I've tested both solutions on period hardware, with no emulation and it does work.

There is one caveat however.
Replacing the SHLWAPI.DLL with the new version will result in errors. I experienced program faults on both EXPLORER.EXE and KERNEL32.DLL when trying to open Windows Explorer, Control Panel or any view of the file system.
It's not needed. The original 1996 file from WIndows 95 OSR 2.0 (B) is sufficient enough, and causes no crashes, and the applications work without any issue.
