I'm trying to run a couple of older games (namely The 7th Guest and Dinotopia) on a Dell Dimension 8300. I've mounted my C:\ and D:\ drives thusly:

mount c c:\dosgames
mount d d:\ -t cdrom -ioctl

This works just fine, but when I next type in "D:" and then "install," I get an error telling me that "install" is an illegal command. The "dir" command also returns no files, as if there is no CD in the drive.
I get the feeling I'm making a rather stupid mistake here, as it has admittedly been many years since I last used DOS (and I was a bit young then) but I'd appreciate the help all the same.

Maybe for some reason your CD-ROM is not properly detected. Why don't you try to copy the files from the CD to a folder and then mount it as a CD-ROM? DOSBox allows it, and after the install is complete, if you think the CD files are to big to keep them there you can look for a crack.
