Bug report:

When I go into full screen mode, the resolution goes to 640x480 in 256 colours, and stays there permanently even after switching back, so I have to go into Control Panel each time to change the resolution back to what it was. I use CGA in DOSBox.

Might help if you provide some info:

Operating System and Service Pack Level
Video Card
Video Card Drivers Version
Version of DosBox used
What kind of monitor being used? LCD/CRT?

When you say the "resolution goes to 640x480x256".

Do you mean the desktop resolution? Not DosBox? DosBox doesn't support 256 anyway so you must be referring to your Desktop resolution.

try setting the windib variable before starting dosbox to see if that changes something

set SDL_VIDEODRIVER=windib
dosbox

Is that, by any chance, Shuttle SFF PC? SiS 650 chipset is OK for desktop apps but quite buggy when it gets to DirectX. Try updating it to the newest version from SiS site -- I don't like that version 0.0, the current version is 2.21.

Setting the variable mentioned doesn't fix the problem but does change the behaviour:

Now when I try to switch to full-screen mode, the window client area goes completely black for a few seconds, then closes (without an error message).

I will look for an upgraded driver for my card.
