Any idea what causes this error? I get sound when enabling this, but no display.

Sounds like a driver problem. Are you using latest video drivers for your videocard?

Seems the problem is starting to appear more often...so it's hard to say if it's a driver problem or a problem with my code.
Unfortunately it cannot be debugged easily since you'd have to install a debug version of d3d and check exactly why the call fails...
