In the DOSBOX readme file I have seen that the "special key" ALT-F12 corresponds to "Unlock speed (turbo button". It's not clear to me what does it mean, can anybody please explain ? Thanks. 😀

ALT+F12 activates the turbo function, that means that all things runs in doublespeed. (Correct me, if I said something wrong.)
Very usefull when a game takes many time to load. 😉
It'll run dosbox as fast as it can with the current cycles, so if you have 20% cpu usage with 2000 cycles and hit turbo it'll go 5 times so fast to reach maximum cpu power.
It's simply the same as saying "cycles=auto" in the configuration AFAICS. It'll use as many cycles as are possible, until your host CPU (or one host CPU in a multi core system) is mostly maxed out.

uhm no. not exactly.
it should speed up as well. cycles=auto should preserve regular speed.
